https://lnkd.in/g4-gzcp6 PJM increase in capacity costs from $2.2 billion for 2024/25 to $14.7 billion for 2025/26 translates to about $15/MWh or 1.5c/kWh. In California, that would be a small blip, but in the mid Atlantic, where retail prices are a lot lower, that will have a noticeable impact on bills.

Excellent summary of the current wholesale marketplace. Reliability has to be balanced with price and emissions.

One of the solutions is decentralised green power generation! And Larry Fink did not count e-mobility. Only the computational power required for sustaining AI's rise is doubling roughly every 100 days. To achieve a tenfold improvement in AI model efficiency, the computational power demand could surge by up to 10,000 times. The energy required to run AI tasks is already accelerating with an annual growth rate between 26% and 36%. This means by 2028, AI could be using more power than the entire country of Iceland used in 2021 (World Economic Forum 2024)

Wanted to talk about timing, specifically timing when you charge your heavy trucks/buses. What happens when you combine an electricity retail product that rewards you for load shifting, with knowledge of the wholesale electricity market and a business that wants to do better? Magic. That’s what happens. One of our brilliant Flow Power clients in the electric trucking business just beat the ASX wholesale(not retail!) electricity market by an average of 25% over the year, which in itself is a great price outcome but, scarily, they still have a lot of room to improve! FYI, in their best month they beat the market by 65%!! But it’s not just price that’s the winner here, the quicker we match demand with supply, the faster we reduce our emissions. 39% of battery revenues have come from the capacity market so far in 2024, compared to only 21% across all of 2023. The GB BESS index now includes capacity market revenue so you can more accurately measure your battery revenues against the market.
