Jack Cooney is a highly respected figure in the GAA, having made a significant impact both as a player and as former Westmeath senior football manager. In this video from the University of Limerick, Jack shares his Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Journey, highlighting how #RPL allowed him to leverage his accumulated knowledge and practical experience in coaching and sports science to gain entry to a Masters in Sports Development at the University of Limerick. Since completing the course, he has coached at a high level within the #GAA and is working full-time as the National Player Development Lead for the GAA. Although it was challenging returning to education, Jack received great support from the university and from his fellow students. This is another great example of the practical benefits of RPL and how it can help individuals to get on a pathway to high education by recognising their everyday learning and give it the value it deserves. Here is a video we did for external moderation of students who chose to do IGCSE Physical Education PE as one of their external sports. This specific video was focusing on Golf. The school also adopted our Complete Athletics Curriculum to encourage student-led learning while delivering high-quality athletics lessons to students in the future! 📚 During the workshop, former International Decathlete Martin Brockman provided the teachers with in-depth knowledge of various athletic events and guided them on how they can help their students excel. Understanding the Basics of D1 College Sports What Does It Take To Play D1 College Sports? Division 1 (D1) colleges are the elite level of college sports, featuring top-tier athletes and comprehensive programs. With 350 schools and approximately 6,000 teams, D1 encompasses sports ranging from football to golf. These schools boast large budgets, elaborate facilities, and offer full athletic scholarships. Conferences like the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the Big Ten are all part of the D1 landscape. Aspiring athletes need dedication, exceptional skills, and a strong academic record to succeed at this level.

Can everyone afford to play tennis? There is almost 3,200 schools in NSW and 2,200 are public...when compared to the independent school networks, public school tennis offerings can vary significantly, often reliant on teachers taking on multiple roles to create sporting opportunities for their students. This year we're investing (both financially and in staff support) to support the public school networks with the aim of making tennis competition and programming accessible for all. Following our successful Coloured Ball Competition pilot with the Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) in 2023, we're working with additional public school zones this year to create more opportunities for students. Collaboration between our national and state sporting body, local clubs and coaches and finally the school sport representatives and teachers has been key in being able to provide high quality, affordable tennis competition experiences for all. As an insight, the competition below had approximately 170 players over 10 weeks, the cost was just $6/week for a child to play and it raised almost $10,000 revenue for the local tennis club in off-peak time. The income means the local club can pay to support the local PSSA to deliver the competition, taking some of the burden off local teachers and making these competitions sustainable, more of these to come in 2024! Great talk, thank so much, Robin Matthews 🙌🤩 Tracing your journey and offering tips/advice that you’ve learned along the way was invaluable knowledge for the cohort. My key take home points from your talk for the students to consider in their early careers were: don’t settle for being average, always strive to do the best job possible; don’t shy away from the crappy roles/tasks; create and utilise contacts at every opportunity; and don’t be afraid to fail - you have to put yourself in a position to learn…and sometimes the best learnings come from errors.
