What a wonderful congress last week with Raphael Hemler as the day chair on "How can we achieve the embedding of the cycle of appropriate use in daily care through 'samen kiezen én delen'". Thanks to the organizers Federatie Medisch Specialisten, ZonMw and Zorgevaluatie en Gepast Gebruik. Let's share some messages that I picked up from Hylke Brenkman PhD student of Jelle Ruurda: PLASTIC-Study 'Route Along the Circle of Appropriate Use' 🐌 The process is not progressing as quickly as hoped: de-implementing certain practices can sometimes be challenging. Despite adjusting the guideline based on the study publication results. ZonMW provides a dissemination and implementation boost to further apply the results in practice, including taking a deeper look into barriers and facilitators: 🔎 Why is it difficult to change knowledge or habits/behaviors? 💡 Approximately 7 years from knowledge gap to guideline adjustment vs. 10-13 years. In the PLASTIC-study the main gain in time reduction was found in the phase of publication of results to guideline revision: from 5-7 years to 2 years! Recommendations: ✔ If level 1a evidence is not needed, set up a low-complexity study. ✔ Vectis should benefit from care declaration research, as there is still room for improvement in obtaining data. ✔ Assistance from implementation experts is necessary. From my position in the Dutch Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology and as a representative in the Council for Science & Innovation of the Federatie Medisch Specialisten, I am convinced that there is so much to learn from each other: We can bring in so much from what is being done in various related medical fields ánd bring in our expertise of counseling based on trust in communication and highly advanced technology perspectives to accelerate the continuous learning system through #zorgevaluatie research, for our daily clinical practice. #RadiationOncology #radiotherapy Nederlandse Vereniging voor Radiotherapie en Oncologie NVKF De Nederlandse Vereniging van Klinisch Fysisch Medewerkers (NVKFM)

Which challenges should the healthcare sector address in the future? And which new possibilities are we facing? #Fremtidsdage at Rigshospitalet raised these questions and a panel sessions focused on how future science builds on groundbreaking technology and extraordinary collaborations. It had been co-organised by Jakob Øster with HALRIC pilot projects as cases - Tobias Todsen explained how the use of Research Infrastructures can positively impact the diagnostics and surgery of cancer. Rajmund Mokso further explained how the HALRIC pilot project he is involved with might contribute to less invasive procedures and potentially change the way severe astma patients are treated. The clinical potential of Research Infrastructures was challenged in the further panel sesssion steered by Gry Falkenberg Lending: 💡Some times we are intoxicated by technical excitement... It is unlikely that x-ray based Research Infrastructures will have an impact as a clinical tool in the next five years, said Barbara Malene Fischer, Rigshospitalet. 💡BUT we are already getting more knowledge of whole structures when we look at i.e. tissue, fibres and muscles in 3D with unique Research Infrastructures, said Tobias who had also explained how this makes a difference in his HALRIC pilot project with DTU Compute and MAX IV Laboratory to investgate the feasibility of using #microCT to optimimize surgical precision in oral cancer. 💡 It is a workflow challenge that prevents us from delivering a result while a patient is still in treatment, underlined Rajmund Mokso and Anders Bjorholm Dahl further explained how it is still very much a research process where you apply for beamtime, have the sample delivered and analyse afterwards. A key take away was that the workflow is a bottleneck and that certain unique infrastructures need to come closer to the patient to enable a real-time workflow. The HALRIC pilot projects were presented in the context of the brand new Technical University Hospital of Greater Copenhagen, which Barbara Malene Fischer presented to kick off the 'Future Lab' session. The virtual university is a collaboration between Region Hovedstaden and DTU - Technical University of Denmark and it aims to provide new building blocks for future sustainable healthcare where more patients have access to the right care, no matter who they are and where they live.

What an inspiring time in Berlin at #EarthDay. At Helios Klinikum Berlin-Buch, I was able to witness state-of-the-art therapy methods in practice. The hospital in Berlin-Buch is one of the most modern in Germany, cutting-edge medicine is lived here. For example, groundbreaking cancer therapies with CAR-T cell therapy or the innovative use of augmented reality in neurosurgery. Later on, we moved on to the Helios Sustainability Day. Colleagues from all clinics exchanged views on important ESG initiatives: How we can attract and retain new nursing staff. Or further reduce hospital waste. Around one third of waste in hospitals is plastic. Reducing of this waste is an important step on our path to a more sustainable future. For me, these were two impressive occasions, entirely in the spirit of Earth Day. The commitment of our colleagues to our patients and our planet can be felt everywhere. Healthcare and sustainability go hand in hand. As a healthcare company, it is our duty to take care of our planet and the people who live on it. And that's what we do at Fresenius. Every day. #FutureFresenius #Sustainability #ESG #ESGatFresenius

Join the Movement in the Fight Against Cancer with GE HealthCare! Did you know that breast MR volumes have increased from 35% to 46% over the past 3 years*? Despite this growth, only 4% of breast MR exams are conducted in the US today*. Even more surprising, only 46% of sites have performed breast MR exams in the past year*. The challenge doesn't end there. It takes anywhere from 5 to 40 minutes to analyze an exam and generate a report for breast MR, and radiologists spend over 15 minutes per day on non-value-added tasks like organizing images, etc. But fear not! GEHC is paving the way forward with BreView, our new post processing solution designed to streamline breast post-processing workflows and optimize your experience. Click on the link below to witness GE Healthcare's vision in the fight against cancer. Fighting cancer also means enabling radiologists to focus on tasks that add value to the diagnosis and patient outcome. This is the ultimate goal of BreView. Click bellow to watch the video that takes us through the journey of a breast cancer patient and how the future of imaging has impacted her care pathway. Demonstrating the future of digital imaging throughout the pathway, we can imagine the future of care giving. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dE_dWk_A 👈 Together, let's make strides towards a future where cancer diagnosis and treatment are more efficient and effective than ever before. We are back and continuing with our series on ✨ SUCCESSFULLY crowdfunded research projects✨ through Let’s Get Proof AND reminding you about a valuable opportunity to apply for the $25,000 🚨🚨 Let’s Get Proof Prize 🚨🚨 to kickstart YOUR research! Next up, introducing the “Modified intermediate Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score: iASPECTS” project: https://lnkd.in/g4UqtFHW Led by an outstanding research team at the Calgary Stroke Program located at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine UCalgary, including Dr. Mayank Goyal, Dr. Michael Hill, Dr. Aravind Ganesh, Dr. Rosalie McDonough, and Dr. Johanna Ospel, the goal of this project is to improve patient outcomes after stroke by more carefully identifying who can benefit from endovascular therapy (EVT). Did you know that some stroke patients are traditionally excluded from receiving EVT due to what is known as “hypodense” regions found in CT images that are commonly deduced as areas of irreversibly damaged brain tissue? Researchers at the Calgary Stroke Program in collaboration with other institutions are working towards a more accurate approach to predicting the fate of treatment by proposing an intermediate category of hypodensity to assess known as “mild hypodensity” that they strongly believe could also be potentially rescued by reperfusion post-EVT. Thus, more patients could be eligible for such treatment, mitigating the overall burden of stroke. This study delves into fascinating avenues of improvement towards stroke care and treatment decisions! For more information, be sure to also check out these intriguing publications: https://lnkd.in/gfi5QjpK https://lnkd.in/g7RejHKT We hope these examples of incredible medical research projects that are utilizing Let’s Get Proof are encouraging YOU TO APPLY NOW for a chance to win the 🚨 🚨 Let's Get Proof Prize 🚨 🚨 to accelerate funding for your innovative medical research! 👉 https://lnkd.in/gthTWF3M 👈 #letsgetproof #medicine #medicalresearch #bettermedicinetogether
