De Beers Delivers Proof at JCK 2024 Although lab-grown diamonds (LGD) maintain a strong industry presence, natural diamonds continued to be spotlighted by the biggest names at JCK 2024. To further emphasize this trend, De Beers Group announced suspending their production of LGD for jewelry purposes and turning over their Lightbox factory. With natural diamonds prioritized, De Beers Group introduced DiamondProof. DiamondProof is a countertop detection device for retailers to verify natural diamonds on the spot. The ability to quickly, conveniently confirm natural versus LGDs will help those who “can’t tell the difference between the two” gain insight and awareness. Price point will no longer be the big differentiator as consumers have access to this defining test that alerts, Yes, there is a difference! The cost for De Beers Group's DiamondProof will hover around $12,000 for this 12” by 12” device; however, its value is both short- and long-term. Empowering consumers with retail-level access to this verification instrument instills confidence in their purchase, making them immediately aware of what they are buying. The ability to verify natural diamonds from imitations is the best way to promote them. In a world filled only with Pristine Gems' diamonds, a tester would not be necessary. We supply only natural diamonds, making our fancy-shapes even brighter. #PristineGems #JCK2024 #DiamondProof #DeBeers #naturaldiamonds #jewelry #diamondeducation #RobBates

Lightbox announced that they will be reducing the price of their products by about 33 percent. This may be the first salvo ! De beers has stated that the fundamental difference between natural diamonds and lab growns are the pricing differential. Since they don’t want to lower the price of naturals, their only option is to tank LGD prices ! This is the most sophisticated form of market manipulation. They failed the first round but you can’t blame them for trying. For some of you who is familar with the good old days in Hong Kong where the price tags on jewellery were highly inflated and only a starting point for negotiation, this promotion by none other than Lightbox is a bit surprising. If only they would adopt similar tactics at Forevermark and De beers jewellers. Clearly, they are willing to damage the Lightbox brand to achieve their end game to make LGD look cheap. Fortunately their product offering is so inferior that they are not likely to succeed. Al Cook sell Lightbox !

We recommend this latest article from Rapaport which puts synthetic diamonds in the spotlight. With insights and data from Edge Retail Academy, MVI Marketing, Edahn Golan and Tenoris, it’s an interesting look at the current market for laboratory-grown diamonds. Amish Shah, founder of lab-grown wholesaler ALTR Created Diamonds said: “The stigma and debate which surrounded the lab-grown product three or five years ago is no longer there… In fact, it’s becoming trendy, and if you look at the global economy and the state of the US consumer, the economics support the category more than ever.” Read more below. #diamonds #diamondindustry #laboratorygrowndiamonds #labgrowndiamonds #Rapaport

A limited edition Stanley stainless steel tumbler has caused utter mayhem at Target stores. The Cosmo Pink and Target Red tumblers sold out online and in stores after a TikTok video of the tumblers on a Target shelf went viral. “The Stanley brand has been around for over 100 years and the steel vacuum-insulated water bottles found success on TikTok, seeing a $676 million increase in revenue from 2019 to 2023.” We’re talking about a Tumbler! A vessel that holds liquids for consumption. If such nostalgic brand like Stanley can succeed on #socialmedia why can’t a #communitybank or #creditunion ? Is it because #banking and #fintech is more boring than having a drink of water or #coffee ? Thoughts? #marketing #brandbuilding #nostalgia #finserv #promotion

By making mindful choices, we can significantly reduce our environmental impact while maintaining style and versatility. Dear All, I am reposting Edahn Golan comprehensive post in case you missed it. There are a lot of moving parts in the diamond industry. All eyes are on JCK for now. I don’t know if the comments to Edahn’s post are also readable when reposted but Garry Holloway is optimistic about the future of natural diamond prices. So there is a path to peaceful coexistence to both categories. Some consumers who can afford to buy naturals will do so and some won’t. Consumers buy Mercedes and some buy Toyotas. Different strokes for different folks. That is not to say that a Toyota is inferior to a MB. The key is there is no need for the antagonism to exist. Consumers should be given all the facts and they should be allowed to decide for themselves. Buying diamonds is not a necessity. It is an aspirational purchase. The zealousness to complain how LGD are marketed is stifling creativity and the diamond dream. What for ? Many claims about the allure of natural diamonds are not substantiated. We all need to have a dream. Let it be. Stop the self righteous vigilante attacks in the name of protecting the consumer. LGD are not evil. Educate the consumers about the pros and cons of both categories. Let it be. Peace. LGD can be manufactured using green energy. Prove it and don’t make false claims. Raise the bar for the entire diamond industry. Don’t betray the consumer. Gina Drosos I am still waiting a reply for your statement that you can grow gem quality LGD in your basement with a USD 5000 machine.

Many thanks to Jake Garner for reposting the latest data from Edahn Golan. I am a bit confused but based on the presentation that was made by Edahn’s partner at the AGS enclave I got the impression that while demand for LGD may have slowed there is no data saying these natural diamonds are re-gaining lost market share. Perhaps Edahn Golan or Chris Casey can clarify what the numbers are showing. There is no disagreement that LGD prices continue to decline at the wholesale level but from anecdotal comments from retailers offering LGD, the margin is still good. Not surprisingly the anti-LGD contingent is sounding the death knoll for LGD but the early death of LGD may be over exaggerated. I believe that LGD constitute only about 10 % of Signets turnover whereas some independents have LGD make up over 50 percent of their turnover. I agree that LGD may not be growing as fast but I am not sure the bridal business is going back to natural - yet. It may happen. LGD domestic demand is very brisk in India from my sources. China may be slowing down on gold very recently but it is not buying naturals or LGD. Edahn Golan I am aware of your pessimism on where LGD is heading and I don’t disagree but can you share what the Tenoris data is showing ? Should we get a funeral home and find a Church to bury LGD ?

The synthetic diamond market continues its decline in consumer demand (especially in bridal, see Signet Jewelers recent shareholder statement) and potential cash flow issues for wholesale buyers who get caught on the slopes. As the production of synthetic diamonds increases, the old Wall Street axiom of ‘don’t try to catch a falling knife’ rings true. Where do you think the market will bottom out? Also, calling all Cocoa millionaires, where you at?! 📸: Edahn Golan #syntheticdiamonds #marketdecline #cashflowissues #cocoamillionaires

2moNatural Diamonds just aren't PC anymore. You know...they aren't really "Rare" either. It's just that there's a Cartel. I realize that artificial diamonds, be they from Vapor Deposition, or the High Pressure anvil method, require Lot of Energy to Manufacture. There's NO reason not to use "Green" Energy, However. ...and, Also, since ANY Diamond is "Forever" unless it's subjected to abuse, with Zero Population Growth, they would simply be passed down to the next Generation.
