Re/GeNeraTioN An Afro-Futuristic exhibition invites us to reimagine time, birth, life, and death. The work is an intersection with black cultural, spiritual and political practices and experiences. The exhibit reconceptualizes reproduction by aligning black hair as a vehicle to transport knowledge, history, and life narratives. The Re/GeneraTioN evolution carries ancestors’ adversities, epiphanies, and jubilation across visible and invisible terrains. These pathways hold memory yet invite and demand forward progression. How do our bodies move through time, dimensions, and spaces? What propels our spirits and keeps us moving as we coexist with the horrific and dehumanizing abuses of systematic oppressions? How do we navigate movement with memory borne from vexed realities while pressing into the now and having control of our futures? Black hair is magical. On the surface it’s dead but deep within our bodies each strain holds a connection to stories, mysteries, codes, self-concept, discovery, and songs of survival. Black hair has found its way to rituals and rites of passages. If wooly coils could speak, what would they say? Simply put, black hair has its own center and centeredness.

100 Seats for Misfits: Do you have your ticket? I loved how Myah described her Company: 'It's a training ground for the misfit.' A misfit is someone who does not fit easily within a particular group or environment—I’ve been a misfit all my life. What about you? A misfit is someone whose behavior or attitudes differ from the norms of the group they are in, making them stand out or sometimes feel out of place. I bet you have felt out of place at one point or another too. I don’t call myself the 'accidental banker' because I fit perfectly in this world—I am a misfit. Isn’t it great when you find a group, an organization, or a friend where being yourself is celebrated? That’s exactly what they are doing with this program. I call this kind of program a training ground for the underdog. I refer to this type of effort as 'the but for.' But for an initiative like this, people who are looking to find their way wouldn’t get the exposure that could be the tipping point directing them toward their purpose! I, for one, am all for giving people platforms and positioning them to reach the next level. I want to celebrate these ‘misfits’—will you join me? The auditorium holds 100 people—let’s pack it! My view: The letter is too accommodating of the criminals who vandalize art. What will deter the crime is the assurance of lengthy prison sentences, fines, and the requirement of full restitution. In the meantime, museums should enhance their security. "Our UK museums and galleries are an integral part of society, where free access allows everyone to be inspired by humanity’s greatest achievements. The collections we hold are irreplaceable and with each attack we are forced to consider putting more barriers between the people and their artworks to preserve these fragile objects for future generations." It was our wedding anniversary this week and so we went out for the 'anniversary dinner' on Saturday evening - which was fabulous at Number One in Edinburgh. We also went to an art exhibition at the wonderful Lemond Gallery (thanks Ken Lemond) where we treated ourselves to a couple of paintings. We both love collecting Scottish Art and we never know when we will come across a piece that we really want. That is why we have an 'art pot'. Money put aside each month so that we can buy something when we see it with no guilt or debate of whether we should be spending the money - that is what we have put the money aside for. I call it guilt-free spending and it takes the stress out of buying something you love and want rather than need.
