Quick Tip from Ball Tech On Demand: As plants fill in a container, it can be difficult completely saturate the root zone. Plants with glaucous or waxy foliage, like this Dianthus, repel water which is what limited water getting to the root zone. Multiple irrigations and occasional root checks are important to confirm if additional irrigations or adjustments in nozzle position are needed. #greenhouse #horticulture #irrigation #watering #growing #plants #ballseed #greenhousetechteam #techondemand

How can the CRM Probe from GroGuru Inc help producers identify the need to improve soil structure? In the image below, we'll see two different instances: one before planting and the other after the crop starts to grow. In the first red box marked 1, we see three rain events that occurred fairly quickly. The bottom of the profile (the bottom lines) is waterlogged and holds a lot of water before it drains through. The second red box marked 2 is after the crop is starting to grow. We still had water push all the way through the profile, but the deeper profile didn't show the same level of water logging or leaching. It was substantially less!! I wonder why? What changed from the first event before planting to the second event after planting? This grower is starting to learn things about his operation that he can use to improve his profile and his profit potential! Rain makes grain, but only if you can hold it in the root zone! Could this be happening on your farm? What does this show us about water holding capacity and soil water availability for the crop in season? What type of management can we implement to improve the water holding capacity in this field? These are all questions we can truly begin to answer with Continuous Root Zone Monitoring using a GroGuru CRM Probe. Connect with me via DM to learn how to get a CRM system monitoring on your farm today! #regenerativeag #precisionirrigation #GroGuru #CRMProbe #irrigation #sustainability #farming

A bit on bottom watering 💧 Sub-irrigation, or bottom watering, is exactly what it sounds like: watering your plants from the bottom as opposed to on top. This technique can help in a few ways: 1️⃣ It ensures that water reaches the entire root system, and your plant will only take what it needs- meaning less chances of overwatering. It also encourages the system to grow downward, leading to stronger, deeper roots. 2️⃣ It reduces the risk of fungal disease that comes with wet foliage. This is especially beneficial for plants that have fuzzy or hairy leaves that are more prone to trapping moisture. 3️⃣ It allows you to monitor how much water is being taken up by your plant, making future waterings easier and giving you the option to dump any excess from your drip tray. Simply choose a pot with good drainage, place in a tray of water, and wait 15 minutes to remove. Done! 🌟 Have you tried this method? Which watering technique do you prefer?
