Everyone loves celebrating Disney+ Hotstar viewership numbers & records. Quick question though - are these numbers audited or validated in any way? Afaik, they aren't. And it's self-reported, so how do we confirm these "records"? For context, typical TV viewership numbers are published by a regulated third party company (BARC) but that is not the case with digital viewership numbers. So how real are the crores & crores of concurrent users? Curious to hear your thoughts 🤔

Did you know BARC numbers are extrapolated from a vvvery small audience of 50k-1L to 210mn households? They spend all their time recruiting the "right mix" of households to represent the country better

HotStar leverages AWS infra & and services for serving concurrent users and they did a case Study at the AWS flagship event re: Invent. These numbers are not only their own but are tracked by the Service providers as well. TBH, I have more trust in real-time data than any 3rd party media research data. Well, guess we’ll never know until there is a regulatory body. But it seems proportionate (if not 100% true) as not all matches in which India plays break records. Kohli played well today scoring a 100, and the last time when viewership records were broken. Also, I think new records would be set when India play in the semis and if at all manage to qualify for the finals.
