IKEA is hiring Roblox players in the UK and Ireland to work in its virtual store. Where the Swedish furniture company is hiring 10 people (18+ only), as part of its “Careers Done Different” campaign. Even though some in the gaming community are calling the move "dystopian." Here are three reasons bringing paid jobs into virtual worlds might just work (no pun intended). Reason #1 Gameplay is fluid Gameplay is widely considered a voluntary activity. However, research from the Netherlands Aerospace Centre and Leiden University suggests that mandatory gameplay does not reduce enjoyment (see link in the comments). Also see: Professional esports players Reason #2 The era of virtual work Post COVID-19 global pandemic, virtual jobs are the new normal. In that, making a living is further disconnected from physical locations. As a result, the line between spending ~40hrs/week in a physical IKEA location vs earning £13.15/€14.80 per hour to work in virtual IKEA store is equally blurry. Reason #3 It's great employer branding Assuming the Roblox experience sticks, IKEA could even offer similar positions to its over 200,000 global employees. After all, how many employers offer a transfer to an internal Roblox job? https://lnkd.in/eVu2nZcM

IKEA is set to open a new virtual store on #Roblox, marking a significant milestone for both the company and the evolving metaverse. The game, called ‘The Co-Worker Game,’ launches on June 24th and offers a unique opportunity for players to work in IKEA's virtual universe (they didn't use the term 'metaverse'). With a limited number of paid roles available, applications are open from June 3rd to June 16th. This initiative not only allows participants to experience IKEA's distinctive career paths but also highlights the potential for real income generation within virtual spaces. This move by IKEA into mainstream gaming underscores the immense possibilities for businesses to monetize and for individuals to earn income in the metaverse. The virtual store enables players to immerse themselves in various roles, reflecting IKEA's flexible career philosophy. Successful applicants for the ten paid positions will assist customers, develop skills, and even achieve promotions, mirroring real-world job dynamics. The broader Roblox community can also engage with the virtual IKEA, exploring different departments and iconic features like the Swedish Food Market. This development is a significant win for both centralized and decentralized metaverses, showcasing the potential for international commerce, instant payments, remote work, and digital identity within these digital environments. The IKEA initiative exemplifies how education, brand building, and much more can thrive in metaverse spaces, even if these utilities are not explicitly highlighted by corporations yet. By providing real income opportunities and showcasing flexible career pathways, IKEA is setting a precedent for how businesses can leverage the metaverse for both commercial success and workforce development. https://lnkd.in/gcxxw_Tc

IKEA is approaching brand experience from a a whole new dimension: They are now hiring 10 employees to assist in its innovative virtual store on Roblox. This move blends gaming and employer branding, setting a new standard in the retail industry. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 Virtual Roles: 🛍️ Employees will guide customers, serve digital meatballs, and help navigate the virtual store and select furniture. Unique Hiring Process: 🎯 Prospective employees will handle virtual interviews, ensuring they are the perfect fit for the role. Pioneering Initiative: 🚀 IKEA is the first retailer to offer paid positions on Roblox, aiming to attract young talent and integrate them into their real-world workforce. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼-𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 👱♂️ 👱♀️ Virtual Employment Experience This virtual roleplay allows workers to develop their skills, assist customers, and gain promotions within the digital store. 🏆Exclusive Rewards Virtual workers have the chance to win user-generated content (UGCs) and other exciting perks. Why This Matters: By creating paid virtual roles, IKEA showcases a unique career approach, allowing co-workers to explore roles both in the game and real life. Roblox is very well-known for providing an excellent opportunity to connect brands with a younger audience. With 77 million daily active users, 17-24 year old, this strategy aligns perfectly with engaging the next generation of employees. This move by IKEA sets a new precedent in how retail and technology can intersect to create unique and engaging employment opportunities. As we continue to explore the metaverse and the different use cases, it's exciting to see how such innovations will shape the future of work and retail. #IKEA #Roblox #Metaverse #RetailInnovation #VirtualWork #DigitalTransformation #GenZ #Technology #Employment #Gaming

There's a new opportunity for Roblox players in the UK and Ireland. IKEA announced that it would hire 10 people to run its virtual Roblox store as part of an initiative to showcase potential career opportunities to young people, but this time, kids won't be allowed to participate, as you'll have to be over 18 years old to qualify via BloxzMedia. "With us, you have the opportunity to move departments, flex your skills, and get promoted," the advertisement for the job application reads. It also describes how employees can access a "unique" job progression and that jobs range from helping out in the showroom with customers who are choosing their furniture that they can purchase online to even surviving virtual meatballs in the bistro. Although applying for the job isn't exactly straightforward, before you log your usual details, you must first fill out a form and answer questions like "What would you do if we ran out of pixelated hot dogs in our bistro?" and "If you were a pixelated Ikea furniture, which one would you be and why?" While this contract is limited, which may mean you don't get to enjoy working in a virtual Ikea for long, it is fully remote and offers a £13.15/€14.80 hourly rate. #ikea #roblox #metaverse #gaming #tech https://lnkd.in/gvXiz_-8

IKEA is opening a new store on Roblox - and that's not the news. You could be paid to work there! Launching June 24th ‘The Co-Worker Game’ will allow players to experience working in IKEA’s virtual universe. Fans will be able to live their home furnishing dreams and get paid for it, with a limited number of paid roles available. Applications for paid roles in ‘The Co-worker Game’ are open from today until Sunday, 16th June. IKEA are the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox. "At IKEA, there is no set route to career progression. Our co-workers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world. There are many ways to learn and grow at IKEA, and that's what IKEA on Roblox is all about.” My immediate questions: I wonder how will I get my steps up now. Will this be the saviour for marriages. Virtual meatballs? How do you manage the culture, oh so many questions and can't wait to see how this plays out - I hope its a huge success and just the start. What better way to immerse your customers/fans/staff into the experience. Read all about it here. https://lnkd.in/gDK5Rinq
