Entrepreneurship is integral to our economy. The Canadian government and regulators have stifled this important economic driver by making it very difficult ( time , effort and cost) for entrepreneurs to easily raise capital. This drives them to private markets and to move to other favourable jurisdictions. Programs like these are critical to motivate our youth and hopefully, the program also sets these young women up to successfully navigate Canadian hurdles in a way that encourages these future leaders to remain in Canada and pursue their entrepreneurial spirit. Maybe some of these ladies will influence the government and regulators to stop the the downward spiral of our markets and economy.

BREAKING NEWS - Time for change! 👀 For those who know me, it’s no secret that I love combining sales with creative thinking—and let’s be honest, the entrepreneurial itch is just impossible to get rid of. Southbound in Atlanta this week was an awesome event! The theme: “Growth at all costs is out. Sustainable growth is in.” If you’re a CEO or GTM leader, you’re undoubtedly hearing the same thing. Grow… efficiently. (BTW - proof abounds in the public markets. If you are interested in digging in, I highly recommend subscribing to Meritech Capital’s Software Pulse newsletter. They provide a recurring analysis of the public SaaS market - and it’s very clear that efficient growth is the name of today’s game.) Back to Southbound. All the sessions were great but my personal favorite was a panel with Tami McQueen, Brooks Robinson, Jim Douglass, and Eric Gilroy. It was really interesting to hear them talk about how they help their portfolio companies navigate today’s market. A few key takeaways from this session: 1️⃣ Early, early stage is still about finding product-market fit, but founders/CEOs need to start thinking about efficiency earlier than in the past. The general consensus is that you should have a good story by the time you’re approaching the $20M in ARR mark. 2️⃣ There was a good discussion about the Rule of 40 and the importance of understanding how you can move the needle on that front… which requires a thorough understanding of your unit economics and where you have the most operating leverage in your company. 3️⃣ Having great metrics is… great. But investors are looking at the underlying story of a metric. The underlying story tells a lot about the repeatability and scalability of a company’s performance. This is the era of consistent and efficient growth. The winners will master it.
