🏟 Last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars took on the New England Patriots in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley Stadium, showing the NFL's growing ambition to expand its footprint outside the U.S. 🌍 Although I’ve casually followed the NFL for years, the league’s ambitious push for global growth has made me question the extent of the challenge they face, especially considering the cultural differences around how various sports are consumed worldwide. 📊 Take this for example: in a recent NFL game, only about 9% (roughly 16 minutes and 24 seconds) of the 3-hour-plus broadcast consisted of actual playing time. The rest? 66% was stoppages, and 25% was commercial breaks. 🇬🇧 In a country where sports like football or rugby offer nearly constant action, can the NFL’s stop-start game structure win over fans in the UK where nonstop action is expected? 🗣 Im interested to hear peoples thoughts!

Imagine the pain of a NY Mets fan trying to choose who to root for, the LA Dodgers or NY Yankees, the proverbial "lesser of two evils" dilemma. This presents an opportunity to point out that sport rivalries are an example of managed competition; they're not trying to put the other out of business. Rather, they're trying to beat other entertainment options (pro football, other TV shows, etc.). Yankee stadium will always be packed and concession sales highest when the Red Sox roll into the Bronx. The UFL is looking at several attributes to identify markets when selecting its new cities, including fan interest and existing sports culture, geography and population and venue and infrastructure availability.
