Basketball Coaching: From the Court to Life Lessons 🏀 Coaching basketball has been one of the coolest parts of my life post-playing days. I’ve coached kids as young as 7, all the way up to college level, including a future All American and an All Canadian. Here’s what gets me fired up about coaching: 🧠 In the Zone: There’s something about coaching that just pulls me right in. When I’m there, it’s like the rest of the world just fades away. I’m all in, focused, and it feels great. It’s the same kind of focus I bring to my work outside of sports, and it makes a world of difference. 🔍 Seeing the Unseen: The best part? Seeing what these kids can’t see in themselves yet. There’s something awesome about helping someone realize their own potential, pushing them to be better. It’s like in business – spotting and nurturing talent is super rewarding. 🔙 Throwback Vibes: Coaching takes me back to my own playing days – that thrill of the game, the teamwork, the hustle. It’s a reminder to keep that youthful energy alive, even in my professional life. Coaching isn’t just about the game; it’s about the life lessons that come with it. And the fun part? The best players rarely make the best coaches. They don’t know how to teach certain skills because they never had to learn them. It turns out the best coaches are good at coaching.

A few reasons this is a masterclass: 🏀 Notice she took the blame first. “That’s on me, I should have noticed that first” is a selfless way to help the student know it’s not his fault and she’s there to help. 🏀 BriAnna breaks the problem down in a simple way that makes sense for a player. 🏀 She lets him figure out the problem and course correct himself in real-time. 🏀 She doesn’t have him change 10 things. She focused on one small change that made a massive difference. 🏀 She championed Josef letting him know she considers him a shooter. For hoops junkies like myself (who also need to use this exact tip), that confidence and recognition is HUGE. Confidence in your jump shot, and confidence from your teammates you can knock down an open jumper is massive. When I coached high school basketball, I always told our kids “KYP” Know Your Personnel. Don’t pass to someone who shoots at a low percentage to jack up a 3 when knowing your personnel helps to put your team in a better chance to succeed. Brianna is helping build that. The best part of this video is she is a female coach helping all male students get better. It’s getting better on that front, but it’s rarer to see a female basketball coach getting the attention from a group of male players. She’s obviously earned that respect. Balancing work, family life, studying and coaching youth football can be quite full on! But even with the chaos that each week brings, coaching is like hitting the refresh button... During those few hours a week, my mind's in the game. Nothing else. It's a breather from the daily grind where I can just focus on the team, a chance to switch gears and switch off. Watching the team grow and bond is proof that investing in others and creating confidence in others pays off big time, both on and off the field. When you think about a coach, what do you picture? Coming off a season of summer baseball, my first thought goes to the parent volunteers who coached my kids over the last few weeks. But coaching is so much more than little league. So much more than even just sports. I, personally, have worked with three different coaches in the last year, none of whom have helped me with my baseball swing. I have worked with a business coach, a health coach, and an executive coach. And I am better for it. So, if coaching helps people get better, what is the role of coaches in our schools? Raising the Bar on Young Football Talent from a Coaching Point of View.. One of the more satisfying parts of my coaching career has been seeing young football players grow up to become top performers having coached for over 7 years. To the victory of leading a youth team or to walk through stages of development, it cannot be overstated how much the multi-dimensional impact by coaching can help. So here are some crucial parts when it comes to coaching kids into young players. 🔸Laying the Groundwork for Success: Begin with basic techniques and foster an environment in which players feel comfortable growing their skills. 🔸Development Programs: Develop programs that are age appropriate, and offer individual coaching to help guide players through their development journey. 🔸Establish a Culture of Positivity: Build a team environment that overvalues teamwork, respect and the fact how much fun football can be.
