⚾ Batter up! Last week two of our employee owners volunteered at the Hospice of Central New York and Hospice of the Finger Lakes Film on the Field event. Making this #15 of our 25 Acts of Service during our 25th year! 📽️ 😇 The proceeds raised from this event and others gives the team of doctors, nurses, social workers, and chaplains the support they need to continue providing essential care, medications, and supplies to those with life-limiting illnesses. #ProActCares #HospiceCNY #HospiceFLX #MakeEveryMomentCount #25for25

questions for council meeting FromCathryn Watters, RN Tomatthew.hayday@nmc-uk.org Reply-Tosupport@nmcwatch.org.uk DateToday 22:35 Message 1 of 10234 < > Dear Mathew Please put the following questions forward: The statements published by the NMC in response to the Culture Review don’t follow the reflective framework that would be expected of a nurse, midwife or nursing associate if serious concerns had been raised about their practise. To reassure the public and the professionals on the NMC register that there isn’t a high risk of repetition, can David Warren, Helen Herniman, Lesley Maslen and Alice Hilkin all answer before Council today: 1. Why did they fail to implement the recommendations from previous reviews? 2. Why should they be believed that it will be different this time? Also - why was the meeting changed from in person to online - surely with recent events it should have remained in person? Best wishes -- Cathryn Watters Founder & Director NMCWatch: registrant care CIC www.nmcwatch.org.uk @_nmcwatch Company number: 12383189

Happy Wednesday Everyone! This past weekend, I had the opportunity to discuss my nursing story with the hopes of making a lasting impact. I find, that every time I speak of the past, new emotions come up. Extremely raw and fresh emotions. At the start of my career, I did not want to process my grief. I felt I was weak for my sadness, and believed that I would be viewed lesser for having "mundane" emotions in a profession built on strength and selflessness. What I have now learned is that to feel is a gift. When you allow yourself to feel your difficult emotions, this is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength. Selflessness does not mean ignoring the care for yourself, but including yourself in the same kindness and compassion you gift others. For the next month, leading into Nurses Week, I will be fundraising to support the Operation Happy Nurse community. A place and group of people that allow me to feel all my emotions without fear of retribution and judgement. Operation Happy Nurse provides a free, online community for nurses, offering a wide range of resources designed to promote wellness and foster a supportive network. From discussion boards to book clubs, nutritional support to educational blogs, guided meditations, and beyond, the OHN platform is a safe space for nurses to find solace, guidance, and camaraderie. All funds raised will go toward: - Continuing development on the OHN mobile application, making stress relief and community more accessible to the nursing profession. - Expanding free, in-person wellness events for healthcare workers. Here's how your support can make a difference: - For every $50 donation, OHN can provide the free community mobile application to one nurse or student nurse. - For every $200 donation, OHN can offer a free in-person event to one healthcare worker. Operation Happy Nurse has a goal of raising $30,000 throughout this next month. We have 20 incredible fundraisers who aim to participate in making this goal a reality. Please consider helping me reach my personal goal of raising $2,000 toward the fundraising efforts. Your generosity will make a tangible difference in the lives of those who dedicate themselves to caring for others. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/edXjdYHf

Helping local businesses make a real difference to the lives of local life-limited children and their families.
The future of the national Children's Hospice Grant - worth £2 million of Acorns Children's Hospice annual income - is under threat. This means Acorns, like many children's hospices nationwide, may be forced to cut vital services to life limited children and their families, unless the Government steps in. Please sign our petition (link below), add your name today and share far and wide. *What is the Children's Hospice Grant?* The Children’s Hospice Grant is a national £25 million NHS grant, distributed to children’s hospices across England. It makes up around 13% of Acorns annual income, a total of £2 million. *What are we asking the government to do?* We're calling on the Government to confirm the Children's Hospice Grant as a ringfenced, directly distributed grant, guarantee it for at least five years and increase it at the rate of inflation, so Acorns can continue providing the range of vital services hundreds of local families need. Please sign our petition here... https://bit.ly/4c32oOt #Children'sCareMatters

According to the American Red Cross, on average, three percent of the U.S. population donates blood yearly, and a blood transfusion occurs every two seconds. At care.ai, we understand a single donation's profound impact on saving lives. This January, we want to thank all voluntary blood donors who are crucial in fostering health, inclusivity and compassion across all communities. #NeverStopCaring #NationalBloodDonorMonth #BloodDonation #healthcare #innovation #healthtech #digitalhealth #aihealthcare #healthcaretechnology #artificialintelligence #nursing #nursingleadership #virtualnursing #virtualcare #ambientmonitoring #digitaltransformation

For anyone unclear on UK funding for hospice care, there is none ... "From cradle to grave" was the #NHS mantra at it's founding - sadly that is not the case. UK hospices have to take charity funding status to raise money. Hospices and palliative care services play a vital role in supporting those with life-limiting illnesses and their families. I know; I've had personal experience of the amazing care the UK hospice system gives. These services ensure that individuals receive compassionate care that respects their dignity, providing comfort and support during some of life’s most challenging moments. However, in the UK, funding for hospices and palliative care remains the most pressing issue. Many hospices rely heavily on charitable donations to maintain their services. This reliance on voluntary funding creates significant challenges, especially in economically uncertain times. The sustainability of these essential services cannot be left to chance. It is crucial that we recognise the indispensable role that hospices and palliative care services play in our healthcare system. There needs to be a renewed focus on securing stable and adequate funding to ensure these services can continue to provide the high standard of care that patients and families deserve. Investment in palliative care is not just a moral imperative; it is a reflection of our society’s values. It is time for policymakers, healthcare providers, and the public to work together to secure the future of hospices and palliative care in the UK. Our collective effort will make a profound difference in the lives of many. #patients #palliativecare https://lnkd.in/eT4Cp6fm

In the new issue of the Washington Nurse Magazine, I focused on the need for more nursing representation in the state legislature. It is true that nurses carry a significant amount of political capital as the largest and most trusted profession in the United States. Unfortunately, targeted campaigns from opposing groups with more financial resources to navigate our political system often win out in Olympia. We need to change that dynamic… Become a WSNA PAC recurring donor (any individual supportive of nursing can donate). If you are a recurring donor, consider chipping in a single add-on donation. This #ChildrensHospiceWeek, we stand alongside Together for Short Lives whose new report reveals that if the next UK Government fails to protect a crucial £25 million NHS fund for children’s hospices in England, children’s hospices will be forced to cut back on crucial services across the country. Read more 👉 https://ow.ly/Alkq50SlqRo Show your support for children's hospice care by signing their open letter 👉 https://ow.ly/z4AN50SlqRp Rising costs are having a huge impact on the vital care hospices provide. We need a review of the way adult and children’s hospices are funded across the UK so hospices can be there for those who need them, for now and forever.

NO IMPACT ON SERVICES That was the message about Sheffield’s NHS services following the concerns about anti-immigration gatherings in Sheffield last week. There was no impact on services. Except, there was. Many precautions were put in place to protect #NHS staff and to ensure that patients got the care they were scheduled to receive. To continue care for #patients, the NHS: 👉 Contacted patients who were scheduled to ask if they’d like to postpone or keep their appointments. 👉 Identified evening services available elsewhere. 👉 Developed plans for emergency care that would be needed if riots resulted in injuries. To support staff, the NHS: 👉 Changed car park arrangements, so that security staff were in place to ensure NHS staff safety through to the end of evening shifts. 👉 Made accommodation available for staff who felt unsafe travelling to and from work. 👉 Buildings near the locations suspected to be occupied were cleaned earlier than usual to avoid staff being in buildings. 👉 Personal were made alarms available for NHS staff. It was heartening to see the counter-protests which were peaceful. Those of us that believe that we are better together are undoubtedly the majority. But look at the logistics of managing this to keep the NHS functioning at a time that it is incredibly stretched. Hats off to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS FT for looking after their staff and maintaining care for patients. You can support our NHS staff through Sheffield Hospitals Charity. For NHS staff we #fund practical, emotional and psychological support. We also fund spaces and places inside and outside of the hospitals so that staff can take a breath away from the intensity of the wards. Want to #support our NHS? Join us. https://lnkd.in/ewSpUcaM
