A proposed bill is poised to significantly modernize New Jersey’s liquor laws, specifically for the craft brewery industry. If the bill (S-4265) becomes law, it will ease current restrictions, create growth opportunities for craft alcohol manufacturers, and hopefully mark the beginning of a broader reshaping of New Jersey’s outdated liquor licensing system. Benjamin Sheppard discusses the key features of the proposed bill, including food service flexibility and licensing updates, as well as aspects of Governor Murphy’s vision for more comprehensive reforms that are still not fully realized in the pending legislation. In the increasingly competitive world of breweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries, safeguarding your business’s intellectual property (IP) should be a top priority. The unique flavors, brewing techniques, branding and even the names of your products are assets that set you apart from competitors. Protecting these assets can help ensure that your business can grow and thrive in a crowded marketplace. One of the first steps that you can take to protect your IP is to trademark your business’s name, logos, any unique product names and other marketing resources that set you apart from your competition. And while recipes are generally not patentable, you can protect your brewing, distilling or winemaking techniques through contracts designed to safeguard trade secrets. Ensure that employees understand the value of these secrets and the importance of confidentiality by implementing strict policies and non-disclosure agreements. #LiquorLawyer #Entrepreneurship #LegalServices #Law #DrinksIndustry #Regulations #AlcoholCompliance #WineIndustryAdvisor #AlcoholIndustryAdvisor #BeverageIndustry #SpiritsIndustry #AlcoholIndustry

Interesting times across this sector and for the foreseeable future - thanks Peter Ranscombe for our chat, your insight and for including some of what we discussed. Distillers of all sizes, especially in Scotland, have looked at their carbon footprint and made great strides in adopting more responsible and sustainable operating models. As timelines shorten towards legislative Net Zero targets and ESG becomes even more of a focus, it is likely that there will be consolidation across the sector. Green investment and adopting clean technologies alongside sustainability best practices, remain key for the whisky industry with several independent distillers leading the way. We will watch this space with great interest and continue to support green investment #netzerobusiness #sustainablewhisky #drivechange #makingadifference #greenbusinessfinance

The Island is well known for its Beer. 🍻 From Goddards Brewery, to Yates’ brewery and the WightKnuckle farm brewery, the choices of ale are a plenty. Filing a trade mark is essential in respect of all beery stuff! Especially if you are exporting overseas as well as the Mainland. Beers are to be protected in class 32 that is Beers : “non-alcoholic beverages; mineral and aerated waters; fruit beverages and fruit juices; syrups and other non-alcoholic preparations for making beverages”. You also should consider Class 35 the retail aspect of selling online.
