Pleased to present our paper examining the BC Transplant experience. 78% donor consent <2% of kidneys discarded 95% 1 year all cause allograft survival System policies to improve performance include: 1) Hospital donor coordinators 2) Early communication between the OPO and transplant team 3) Dedicated organ recovery and implant surgeons 4) Age-based kidney allocation 5) Hospital admission of recipients prior to organ recovery Additional work is needed to standardise reporting of system processes within OPOs so that better cross-jurisdictional comparisons can be performed which may help optimise OPO performance https://lnkd.in/gW5HHrXX

Perfusion, which preserves organs outside the body, is changing every aspect of the organ transplant process, from the way surgeons operate, to the types of patients who can donate organs and the outcomes for recipients. We are off to a flying start with the first literature review regarding perioperative delirium-screening tools and their validation. The aim is to determine which validated screening tool is most suitable to detect delirium in hip-fracture patients in the post-anaesthetic care unit (PACU) and the following days. Diagnosing delirium is important for patients and healthcare providers since there is no effective treatment and prevention is associated with better outcome. Delirium after hip-fracture surgery delays rehabilitation, prolongs hospitalization and is associated with chronic cognitive dysfunction. Improving delirium recognition and, in time treatment, will make a big difference to affected patients, families, healthcare providers and reduce costs. With a strong team we can make delirium screening and treatment better for hip-fracture patients. Next winter we will start our clinical research on a Danish population to test if high-dose Dexamethasone can prevent delirium and we hope that you will join us in treating delirium.
