"This is non-negotiable, end of discussion." These were the unequivocal words of an HR Manager to whom we recently reached out for clarification regarding an offer extended to one of our candidates. This situation unfolded over a role offering an annual salary exceeding $150,000, coupled with the complexity of relocating the candidate internationally to the UAE. The ability to communicate effectively is not just an essential skill for an HR Manager—it is the cornerstone of their professional capability. Yet, the approach of using undue pressure or aggressive tactics towards candidates and recruitment consultants remains all too common in our region. From my extensive experience, I have observed a troubling trend: organizations often make the critical mistake of appointing the wrong type of HR Managers. Opting for the least expensive option or those lacking necessary experience at the required managerial level can inflict lasting damage on a company’s reputation far more than it might initially save in costs. It is high time that we recognize the immense value of skilled HR leadership and its profound impact on the health and culture of our organizations.
