Summer Field Trip: Intern edition We brought our Virginia Tech interns behind the scenes of two of our most prestigious project sites — the U.S. Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial, where they had the opportunity to see a smaller renovation at the Capitol building and progress on the museum space coming to the Lincoln Memorial undercroft in 2026. We love to share our passion for building and showcase the iconic sites in our portfolio with the next generation of construction leaders. Interested in joining our Summer 2025 intern program? DC Internship 🏛️ Fall 2024 Student Ambassador, Sydney Hudson! 🎓 Intern of Defense Budgeting in the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation 💼 International Business and Political Science Double Major at Gardner-Webb University 🌐 Young Leaders Program at The Heritage Foundation, intern of Defense Budgeting in the Allison Center for National Security I feel so fortunate for the opportunity to learn and contribute at the Heritage Foundation through the Young Leaders Program this semester. Most of my time is spent researching various defense issues and co-authoring pieces with my supervisor. One of the special parts of interning for Heritage is the opportunity to publish. It is amazing to be trusted with informing policymakers and the public about important issues. Another unique aspect of the Heritage internship is programming for interns from all departments, where the entire internship cohort comes together to learn about a policy issue, historical topic, or professional readiness skill. Heritage aims to build “an America where freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and civil society flourish.” Heritage has a truly amazing culture that flows from this mission. The experts there are so willing to pour into the interns and allow us to work on important projects. I have grown so much and am excited for what the rest of the semester holds. #DCInternship #ExploreDC #InternLife #DCAdventures #StudentLife #WashingtonDC #InterningInDC #CityExploration #DCMuseums #InternExperience #DiscoverDC #InternshipGoals #DCStudyAbroad #DCDiscovery #InternshipExperience #DCSights #InternLifeDC

Joseph Percival Allen University Professor of Economics and Director of Management Fellows at DePauw University
I love this! Jack Rutstein, one of our senior Management Fellows, was featured in The Wall Street Journal. In the immortal words of Calvin Coolidge (one of my favorite presidents): “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On!' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” ― Calvin Coolidge Jack Rutstein embodies this characteristic. Such grit and determination are the lifeblood of success and the central focus of our business program at DePauw University, e.g., Jon Phillips will touch on this topic this Thursday in our capstone course - see you there, Jack! Resiliency is all too rare. Too few accept the challenge of forging their own path. Jack, I am proud of you and your resiliency. I can't wait to see you blaze your path. #depauw #resilience #persistence
My past, present, and future plans were all well-represented in the The Wall Street Journal this morning. Four years at DePauw University including my semester-long internship at Pacers Sports & Entertainment, and my recent summer internship that led to a post-graduate role at Paradox. A special nod to Lindsay Ellis for creating the wonderful thinkpiece which features other like-minded college seniors who also networked their way to a new heights. Additionally, thanks to Lauren K. who was also quoted, representing the Paradox enzo well. The full article can be seen here: https://lnkd.in/didnRA-K

Head of Research Culture and Researcher Development at University of Glasgow and Co-Director of the Lab for Academic Culture
Ever wondered if doing an internship as a PGR is really worth the time out from your research that is needed. Let the experience speak for itself, in the words of our latest Intern Alumna, Gabriela. "In summary, here are the top 3 reasons why I think an internship is worth doing for a postgraduate researcher: 1. Working in a team offers a unique experience for many PhD students, who are working on a niche intellectual question and who may have little daily communication on the topic with others. 2. Exploring new university neighbourhoods is especially useful for those postgraduates who would like to embed themselves within the University ecology long-term, as an academic or professional colleague. 3. Standing out to employers is achieved by developing skillsets that your peers would not have had the chance to during their PhD."
A new read, sharing the reflections of Gabriela Gerganova on her time in the RC&RD Team, doing her PGR Internship. https://lnkd.in/ddJXSR3n "I somewhat serendipitously found, applied for, interviewed for, and accepted a year-long internship with the Research Culture and Researcher Development Team. This came at a rather turbulent time of finishing experimental work for my PhD, but has allowed me to develop a more cohesive and strategic view on how I’d like to develop my professional career. To convince you that it was not only a breath of fresh air for a stressed final year doctoral candidate, but also one of the best experiences I could have asked for, I thought I’d dissect how my time in the Research Culture and Researcher Development Team aligned with the Team values."

Everyone needs to see this AMAZING video produced by one of our Concrete Industry Management (CIM) students, Joseph Grout, about the production of cement at the largest cement plant in the US. Spend 10 minutes of your day learning about how cement is made! The most used material in the world! #gobobcats #concreteindustrymanagement #txstateuniversity
I made a video tour of the HolcimUS Ste. Genevieve cement plant. During the second week of my internship, we spent the entire week touring the facility. You might have seen my post about it at the time. Ste. Genevieve is built on such a grand scale that it’s truly a spectacle to witness. I was naturally drawn to capturing the dramatic sights. By the end of the week, I had collected something like 700 pictures and videos. As someone who enjoys my little creative projects now and then, it seemed only natural to put it all together into a video. I’ve been given permission to share my work with all of you. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it. Every day’s a school day- even in the holidays! I am excited to have the opportunity to apply and develop the knowledge I have gained during my first year Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd through a summer internship at S&P Global. This will be a valuable insight into the field of economics allowing me to grow skills in data analysis and critical thinking while working as a part of a team.
