DC Internship 🏛️ Fall 2024 Student Ambassador, Sydney Hudson! 🎓 Intern of Defense Budgeting in the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation 💼 International Business and Political Science Double Major at Gardner-Webb University 🌐 Young Leaders Program at The Heritage Foundation, intern of Defense Budgeting in the Allison Center for National Security I feel so fortunate for the opportunity to learn and contribute at the Heritage Foundation through the Young Leaders Program this semester. Most of my time is spent researching various defense issues and co-authoring pieces with my supervisor. One of the special parts of interning for Heritage is the opportunity to publish. It is amazing to be trusted with informing policymakers and the public about important issues. Another unique aspect of the Heritage internship is programming for interns from all departments, where the entire internship cohort comes together to learn about a policy issue, historical topic, or professional readiness skill. Heritage aims to build “an America where freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and civil society flourish.” Heritage has a truly amazing culture that flows from this mission. I love this! Jack Rutstein, one of our senior Management Fellows, was featured in The Wall Street Journal. The slogan 'Press On!' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” ― Calvin Coolidge Jack Rutstein embodies this characteristic. Such grit and determination are the lifeblood of success and the central focus of our business program at DePauw University, e.g., Jon Phillips will touch on this topic this Thursday in our capstone course - see you there, Jack! Ever wondered if doing an internship as a PGR is really worth the time out from your research that is needed. Let the experience speak for itself, in the words of our latest Intern Alumna, Gabriela. "In summary, here are the top 3 reasons why I think an internship is worth doing for a postgraduate researcher: 1. Working in a team offers a unique experience for many PhD students, who are working on a niche intellectual question and who may have little daily communication on the topic with others. 2. Exploring new university neighbourhoods is especially useful for those postgraduates who would like to embed themselves within the University ecology long-term, as an academic or professional colleague. 3. Standing out to employers is achieved by developing skillsets that your peers would not have had the chance to during their PhD."

Every day’s a school day- even in the holidays! I am excited to have the opportunity to apply and develop the knowledge I have gained during my first year Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd through a summer internship at S&P Global. This will be a valuable insight into the field of economics allowing me to grow skills in data analysis and critical thinking while working as a part of a team.
