A simple 5% endowment from Montanans could make a lasting impact on nonprofits, museums, public schools, hospitals, and other organizations. The Montana Community Foundation conducted a study named, “The Transfer of Wealth,” and calculated that from 2020 - 2030, $37 billion would be transferred from one generation to the next. If 5% of that $37 billion went from the pockets of Montanans into income streams for these various public entities, then they could make necessary repairs, adequately pay their employees or hire more, create new programs to generate awareness, or even keep the lights on for years to come. The World Museum of Mining has a small endowment that currently provides limited financial stability. Supporters can help grow this income stream by contacting the Montana Community Foundation. For more information or to contribute to the World Museum of Mining’s Endowment click here: https://lnkd.in/g2ACRtcZ Thank you to The Montana Standard for the article highlighting how Montanans can continue to contribute to their favorite (charity or) organization when they can no longer support the organization’s events. This week American Prairie announced the donation of 109 acres in The Judith Landing Historic District to the Montana State Parks Foundation. For centuries, the Judith Landing area has held significant importance for the region’s Indigenous Peoples who lived, traveled, camped, and hunted along the resource-rich Judith and Missouri River corridors. Treaties and peace councils brought numerous tribes and government agents to this place in 1846 and again in October 1855, when the Blackfeet Treaty, or Lame Bull’s Treaty, delineated boundaries and common buffalo hunting grounds. These treaties shaped the region’s land-use trajectory, including the dispossession of historic tribal homelands. Other notable events that occurred at Judith Landing include: - Lewis and Clark and their Corps of Discovery campsite on May 28, 1805. - Ferdinand Hayden's discovery the first dinosaur fossils in the Western hemisphere in 1855. - The establishment of the first military fort in Montana in 1865. Beginning in the 1860s, Missouri River steamboats en route to Fort Benton often tied up here to buy fuel from "woodhawks" who cut timber on the surrounding bluffs. The U.S. Army fort, called Camp Cook, was one of the most remote military posts in Montana, with access to it so difficult that even the "Indians moved away and left it alone." The army abandoned the post in 1869. (Even today the site is only accessible via gravel roads.) In 1872, Fort Benton entrepreneur Thomas C. Power erected Fort Clagett near the month of the river. By 1885, it was the site of a bustling community that included a stone warehouse, saloon, hotel, stable, blacksmith shop, and store. For a short period, the landing was the gateway to the gold fields and a major shipping depot for furs and bison hides. Several of those structures are still standing today, and are among the oldest in existence in the state. American Prairie is doing amazing things by assembling what will one day be the largest nature reserve in the lower 48 states. Their focus, however, isn't historic preservation, it's rewilding. It made sense to get this area into the hands of a group that can focus on its restoration and interpretation. As noted, it may even become a state park one day. This is something I advocated for back when I was there, and I couldn't be more excited to see it come to pass! It's a win-win all the way around. #wildwednesday
It is our absolute privilege to share that we have donated 109 acres of our PN property to the Montana State Parks Foundation. That parcel packs a lot of historical and cultural significance into just 109 acres: as the confluence of the Judith and Missouri Rivers, the site has longstanding importance for many Indigenous tribes. The first fossils found in the western hemisphere were discovered nearby. The first military fort in Montana was established in the banks of the Judith. We have lots more to share about this special location, and we’re excited about a potential new state park at the site! https://lnkd.in/gUAx2iDb

🌲 Yellowstone National Park: an iconic treasure and a vital part of our country's natural heritage. Did you know it was established way back in 1872, making it the nation's first national park? Explore the wonders that lie beneath its surface—a volcanic hot spot giving rise to geothermal features, hot springs, and geysers that form half of the world's geothermal attractions. 🌋 🏞️ Beyond its hydrologic marvels, Yellowstone boasts canyons, rivers, and pristine forests teeming with diverse wildlife like bears, wolves, and bison. It's truly a glimpse into a time before history was recorded. As we marvel at Old Faithful and other iconic spots, let's not forget the challenges the park faces 🚧 🚗 With over $630 million in deferred maintenance, including road damages near Firehole River, the park's infrastructure needs attention. Behold the 142-mile Grand Loop Road, a narrow thoroughfare without shoulders, struggling to keep up with the traffic demands. Upgrading it requires substantial funding to ensure visitor safety and access to Yellowstone's natural wonders. 🏞️ From the pump house museum to water and wastewater systems, significant repairs are needed to preserve Yellowstone's rich heritage and ensure a memorable experience for all visitors. Let's advocate for sustainable solutions to address these maintenance challenges and safeguard this national treasure for generations to come. 🌿 What are your thoughts on preserving Yellowstone National Park and similar natural treasures? https://lnkd.in/d3V4MYG Aquarium Divers For Coral Society (ADFC) is #urging all dive clubs to come together to discuss the organization of at least one club trip for coral restoration a year. The foundations doing this work in Florida and the Caribbean are not enough to sustain this work on their own. We know this because our mission to help restore reefs is what we do. The data is strong to support #coralreefrestoration but to get ahead of coral decline we need #volunteer divers who are willing to put in the effort. Science is not enough to get the underwater work done. The coral crisis is real, it is not about saving these beautiful coral but keeping the ecosystem alive for healthy coastal environments. If you seriously want to help turn tide on the coral decline, ADFC is open to all certified divers and membership is free. Help us #makeadifference. #Coral #Climate #Ecosystem #BlueFinance #Divers #Nonprofit

The Galloping Goose Historical Society (Society) was approved as an Enterprise Zone Contribution Project by the State Economic Development Commission (EDC) in November. This designation allows the Society’s donors contributing $250 or more to claim a 25% State tax credit and a 12.5% State tax credit on in-kind donations. This credit is in addition to the Federal tax deduction for contributing to any 501 (c)(3) organization. The Galloping Goose Society, which was founded in 1987 in Dolores, Colorado, works to preserve hist. orical Rio Grande Southern Railroad (RGS) artifacts and equipment. The Society operates the Rio Grande Southern Dolores Depot Museum and Goose #5, one of only seven such rail vehicles built. The Society was approved for capital and operations as they seek to increase their excursions, visitation and scope of regional history preservation

The ceremonial groundbreaking for "The Tun," a re-creation of the historic Tun Tavern, was held in Philadelphia, celebrating its significance as the birthplace of the Marine Corps. This project, led by The Tun Legacy Foundation and Marine Corps veteran Patrick Dailey, aims to honor the tavern's storied past while recognizing its connections to multiple organizations like the Freemasons and the Society of St. George. The new tavern will serve not only as a tribute to Marines but to all groups historically tied to the original site. The design includes plans for a microbrewery and a colonial-style warehouse, dubbed Peg Mullan’s Beefsteak Club, reflecting the tavern's rich heritage. Although the target opening date is set for November 10, 2025—aligning with the Marine Corps' 250th birthday—financial challenges could potentially delay the project. The foundation has already secured two significant donations of $1 million each but will need more support to ensure timely completion. This initiative is more than just a building project; it aims to create a community hub that supports veterans and educational organizations by donating all proceeds once operational. Patrick Dailey emphasizes that this is a community effort, highlighting the collaborative spirit that drives the project and its goal to restore a beloved piece of Philadelphia's history. #MarineCorps #TunTavern #Philadelphia #HistoricPreservation #CommunityImpact #Veterans #BuildingHistory #Nonprofit #MarineCorpsHistory If you found this post insightful, sparked a new idea, or presented valuable advice, please select 💡!

Indigenous Peoples' Day recognizes and celebrates the history and resilience of Native American people across the United States. In 2021 Oregon officially adopted Indigenous Peoples Day as a state holiday. The Five Oaks historical site is local to us here in Hillsboro, Oregon and creates a tangible connection to the history and lasting impact of the Donation Land Claim Act of 1850, a criticized act that was used to displace Native nations and Indigenous Peoples from desirable land and relinquish it to incoming settlers. Tualatin Kalapuyans named these five oaks “Chatakuin”. The branches of these trees held host to many gatherings and served as a landmark for Native and early pioneer persons. Today, only one of the original 500-year-old trees remain, but the other four were planted from grafts of the original trees. Learn More Here: https://lnkd.in/gw4M2PUe
