The costs of sustainable production are high! Fairtrade certified producers farm with the planet, people, and profit in mind, but as they invest in the planet [environmental due diligence and climate adaptation] and people [human rights due diligence, social impact, living income living wage], their profit margins are shrinking, sometimes even leading to loss-making enterprises. Our expert panel, consisting of Anneke Theunissen, Hernan Manson, Benjamin Drosel and coffee producer, Rattapraseud, in a discussion on “Aligning Values and Impact”, emphasized on the importance of the Fairtrade Minimum Price that helps producers meet the cost of sustainable production but also urged businesses and policymakers to explore innovative ways in which the burden of these costs can be shared across the supply chain. #FairtradeGlobalAwards. #InclusiveTrade #FairTrade

We are expanding deforestation prevention efforts in the coffee supply chain! 🌳☕🙌 ✅ Fairtrade Standards Committee has updated the Coffee Standard requiring certified producers and traders to strengthen deforestation prevention, monitoring, and mitigation. 👉 This update not only aligns with but goes beyond the European Union’s Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR), demonstrating our dedication to sustainability. 🔎 This means that 600 Fairtrade coffee cooperatives, representing 870,000 Fairtrade coffee farmers cultivating 1.1 million hectares, will have the guidance and tools to meet the EUDR, which is part of the European Green Deal. 📆 The updated Standard, effective from 2026, offers producers and traders a transition period to adjust their practices and ensure compliance. We have seen first-hand how the producer groups we work with have initiated a range of projects aimed at mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change, strengthening the ability of smallholder farmers to protect their futures in an era of #climatecrises. These include: 🌡 Training in climate resilience strategies 📃 Compliance with #EUDR 💧 #IrrigationManagement 🌲 #Reforestation. Such initiatives extend beyond agriculture, promoting environmental sustainability across each of the regions we work. In November, Fairtrade International announced a positive step to support farmers: their new partnership with Satelligence. This collaboration will help to scale up satellite monitoring of forested areas and farms belonging to all Fairtrade-certified cocoa and coffee producer organisations globally. The initiative aims to connect Fairtrade co-operatives with data on their members’ farms and their deforestation risks, so they can share this data with their commercial partners and better manage forest landscapes. The partnership will also support producer organisations – representing more than one million coffee and cocoa farmers cultivating 2.5 million hectares – to meet EUDR requirements so they can maintain access to important markets. You can read more about deforestation monitoring and how co-operatives are introducing innovative technologies to build their #climateresilience, in our latest member magazine: ➡ https://lnkd.in/ekEPSVe5 🌍 Learn more about our vital work: www.shared-interest.com #investinafairerworld #forjusticenotprofit #fairtrade #financewithahumanface

The CSDD's rigorous audits will revolutionize the coffee and cocoa industry by improving transparency and accountability in the supply chain. Companies must adopt advanced traceability technologies and sustainable practices to benefit both smallholder farmers and the environment. Ethical sourcing and compliance with international labor standards are essential. #SustainableSupplyChain #Transparency #EthicalSourcing #LogisticsInnovation #CocoaCoffeeTransformation #ThomasHellmuthSander #HellmuthSanderConsulting

Corporate sustainability |Strategic Partnerships and Program Development Specialist |Researcher| Published Scientific Author| I help organizations develop and implement sustainable development strategies.
Very insightful. May I suggest an invoking thought; " why should these industries make it their business to ne certified?" 🤔 What are the impacts if they don't?🤔 Let's talk about it.
Sustainable Certification Systems: Businesses and organizations to show their commitment to the Environment and Sustainable Business Development. 1. RSPO - for palm oil 2. FSC - wood products 3. Rainforest Alliance/UTZ & Fairtrade - for cocoa; coffee; and tea. 4. Other schemes (over 30+). which one is suitable for you?
