The recent National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals were marred by several issues, including questionable officiating, a seemingly forced narrative, poor fan behavior, and a lack of accountability. The Eastern Conference's performance suffered due to injuries and weak conditioning to mainly ALL key players. If the NBA does not address these problems, it risks losing its core audience. With the current saturation of streaming services, user retention will be a significant challenge. This environment has contributed to the growth of ancillary industries like gambling and reselling. The viewership was lower than usual and overall growth is stagnant: “The Celtics-Mavericks series is entering Game 5 tonight with viewership down 2% compared to last year's Nuggets-Heat NBA Finals, which concluded in five games. While ABC's viewership was steady after three games, the Mavericks' decisive 122-84 win in Game 4 reduced the audience to 9.62 million. This is the lowest viewership for a non-pandemic Game 4 on record, with the previous low being 9.67 million for Spurs-Nets Game 4 in 2003. We can learn a lot from sports. The way the Boston team was built showcases excellent management vision and planning. It's intriguing to see a team formed 100% by trade skills. In the famous trade of 2013, the Boston Celtics traded their best players to the Brooklyn Nets for an unwanted player alongside future Draft Picks. At that time, the trade seemed to favor Brooklyn. However, Boston had a different vision. The future Draft Picks (2016 & 2017) that people initially thought was a foolish decision back in 2013, led them to acquire their best 2 players in their current team: Jaylen Brown & Jayson Tatum. This strategic move resulted in taking the team to 6 conference finals, 2 NBA finals, 1 Championship ring, and 1 player holding a finals MVP and the largest contract in the history of the sport. They both have at least 10 more years to go at top level, and might end up as one of the best duos in the history of the sport. In contrast, Brooklyn Nets has not achieved anything remarkable since the trade in 2013.
