Hard to believe this article was written nearly 14 years ago. Sometimes is nice to reflect on past projects and how far we've come. #industrialdesign #productdesign #develop3D

four (of the MANY) advantages of prototyping as outlined by this article with my notes: 1. identifying design flaws (lessons learned, design and/or market resesrch) 2. iterative design (offers an opportunity to adjust/refine) 3. improved communication between designers and stakeholders (there is usually little room for contractual changes but the OTA process is much more flexible) 4. cost and time savings (esp when compared to FAR-based actions) what do you think?

The problem with Maslows Hammer and design systems: When you're in the discovery phase of a new problem, embrace creativity and exploration. Instead of relying solely on the already existing components from the current state of your design system. Take the chance to scribble around, do sketches on paper, build wireframes (!), and experiment freely....go wild. Think outside the box first. Later you can discuss how your existing system can evolve to meet new challenges. Innovation comes from fresh perspectives. And a design system only thrives on new impulses and evolves with them; otherwise it risks stagnation.

😎 Design makes you Ready Before Building 🚴🏻♀️ Before a digital product is made, there are a lot of important things to do. Design plays a big part in getting ready for this. 💣 It helps with coming up with ideas, making plans, and trying things out before anything is built. This makes sure that when the product is made, it’s the best it can be. 💥 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gpv8tmPi

All innovators and inventors are designers. We all have one thing in common - we like to dream. But the way we were taught to design has to change, or else we will never truly build a sustainable future. I wrote my thoughts on why I think the current design frameworks we use are flawed. It’s a short read - take a look if you’re searching for ways to make a change!

Title: 🎨 From Inspiration to Innovation: My Journey in Design 🚀 When I first embarked on my journey as a designer, I was filled with enthusiasm but lacked a clear direction. I remember staring at a blank canvas, grappling with the challenge of bringing my ideas to life. It was a daunting task, to say the least. In those early days, I often found myself scouring the internet for inspiration, desperately seeking a spark to ignite my creativity. I would pour over design references, studying the work of established artists and industry leaders. It was through this process of exploration that I began to uncover my own style and voice as a designer. One particular turning point stands out in my memory. I stumbled upon a design that captivated me—a perfect blend of elegance and functionality. Inspired by its ingenuity, I set out to create my own version, infusing it with my unique perspective and vision. The result was a revelation—a testament to the power of inspiration and iteration. 💡 But inspiration wasn't the only tool in my arsenal. I also learned the value of studying the strategies and techniques employed by industry giants. By analyzing the successes of these "big players," I gained valuable insights into what works and what doesn't in the world of design. 📊 As I honed my craft, I discovered that innovation often emerges from a synthesis of inspiration and emulation. By drawing from the wealth of knowledge and talent around me, I was able to push the boundaries of my own creativity and evolve as a designer. 🌟 Today, I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me, grateful for the lessons they imparted and the inspiration they provided. And as I continue on my journey, I am reminded that great design is not born in a vacuum—it is the product of curiosity, exploration, and a willingness to learn from the world around us. 🌍

Unique and innovative design solutions aren’t just a trend. (they’re a necessity) When I first started working with clients, I: ❌ Stuck to familiar designs that everyone else was using ❌ Followed industry norms without questioning ❌ Played it safe to meet expectations But real innovation is what sets your brand apart. What makes a design truly stand out? It’s: ✅ Custom solutions that reflect your unique vision ✅ Creative strategies that challenge the status quo ✅ Design that not only stands out but also resonates deeply Whatever innovation means to you, make it your priority.
