Bringing our multi-axis game to the next level!
Full simultaneous machining unlocks some pretty crazy tool paths. This particular tool path was programmed using Autodesk Fusion 360. Simultaneous machining allows us to machine more organic, complex parts that would otherwise not be possible with traditional 3-axis machining. The part was done in one operation, cannot beat putting a block of material in the machine and removing a completed part held on with just a few, small tabs. This specific tool path was used to cut the part out upon completion.

The use of tabs in CNC machining is where CNC manufacturing most closely intersects with art.
Creating the perfect tab requires a CNC machinist to shape toolpaths with the finesse of an artist.
However, despite the widespread use of tabs in the market, we often miss this artistic finesse in many instances. People frequently model the tabs they wish to leave behind, but this mostly shouldn't be the case. Ideally, if possible, tabs should not be modeled at all. With an artist's touch, the desired tab should organically manifest with each toolpath you create.
This particular part was designed and the CAM program was prepared using Autodesk Fusion 360. G-code simulation was executed with #MANUSsim. This exquisite video is crafted by our expert team at MANUS.

The simulation aims to carry out virtual checks to ensure that each path passed by the endmill corresponds to the shape that will be achieved. Apart from that, it also aims to find feeding efficiency.

What does Melissa Ramos, owner and operator of M95 Machining (and social media star!) think about CloudNC’s CAM Assist?
“If I’d had CAM Assist when I got started, it would have given me the foundation to get programming much more quickly. With a click within Fusion you can get a part and you can manipulate it afterwards”.

Happy Moldflow Monday!
Layers in Moldflow Insight can be simple or detailed based on user preference.
Within the Layers, I usually rely on the New Layer, New Folder, and Clean Layer options.
Last week I was dealing with a full mold - runner blocks, cooling, inserts, and part geometry. I needed to locate and isolate the hot runner block. I chose to use the Highlight Layer - simply click on the CAD model and it will highlight the Layer that contains the geometry. I was then able to Hide All Other Layers and continue my Moldflow work.
Have you ever tried the Highlight Layer option?
