🌟 Excited to share that I have successfully completed the "Doing Ethnography" certificate course, organized by the Centre for New Economics Studies! 🎓 This immersive experience, held from June 22nd to July 14th, 2024, provided invaluable insights into ethnographic research methodologies. Grateful to the esteemed faculty Rohee Dasgupta, PhD who was an amazing course instructor and taught with an immensely practical approach. A huge thanks to Prof. Deepanshu Mohan for nominating me for this course. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term "Ethnography" - it is a method of qualitative research in which data is collected from the field through observation and/or interaction with people or a particular group. According to me, it is the best form of primary research especially because I am much of a traveller! 🧳 Sharing some of my insights from this course: 1. Ethnography has always been my most preferred way of research and this course helped me explore it's nuances. 2. It addressed how to handle diverse groups and collect information as an ethnographer, especially in an environment where people are reluctant to give information. 3. It helped me understand how to document ethnographic research and how interesting the narrative can be! 4. The course also addressed the use of ethnography ethically and the importance of participant consent. 5. Most importantly it focused on the emerging field of "Digital Ethnography" wherein one can pursue ethnographic research remotely with the help of digital tools like social media analytics, clicking photos and videos, digital story boards etc. Looking forward to applying these skills in my future research! #Ethnography #Research #ProfessionalDevelopment #Fieldwork

Traditional research techniques struggle to uncover the nuance that exists between what customers say and what they do. Getting beneath the surface of an experience requires the right mix of tools and methods. By incorporating aspects of ethnography into your research, you'll see the problem from new and different perspectives. You can't rely on assumed experience, immerse yourselves in ”lived experience”. Fundamentals of Qualitative Research Design👇🏻 There are different types of qualitative research methods, including ethnography, phenomenology, grounded theory, and case study. Ethnography involves observing and interviewing participants in their natural environment, while phenomenology explores the lived experiences of individuals. Grounded theory is used to develop theories from data, and case study examines a single case in-depth. Qualitative research typically involves collecting data through interviews, focus groups, observation, and document analysis. Interviews and focus groups allow researchers to collect rich data about participants’ experiences, perspectives, and beliefs. Observation involves observing participants in their natural environment and taking notes on their behavior and interactions. Document analysis involves analyzing documents such as government reports, newspaper articles, and organizational records. Data analysis in qualitative research involves interpreting the data collected and identifying themes, patterns, and commonalities. This is typically done through coding, where researchers assign codes to segments of data that represent a common concept or theme. The main strength of qualitative research is its ability to provide rich, detailed data about individuals’ experiences, perspectives, and meanings. However, qualitative research can also be time-consuming and resource-intensive. It is important for researchers to carefully consider their research questions and choose the appropriate qualitative research method and data collection techniques for their study.
