To illustrate this post, on Conference Speakers worth listening to, I used the front cover of the book titled “How to Become a Successful Conference Speaker”, by Shawn Collins ( https://lnkd.in/dXWgb9tt ). The main point being made in this post, is that in the age of the “chatbot” (i.e., today), where all have the same access to high level (yet, commoditized) knowledge, there is a movement afoot to separate the “knowledge routers” (a.k.a. Talking Heads) from the “knowledge originators” (a.k.a. Wise Heads), so that at conferences, we know who is worth listening to - the real McCoy’s – in order to pick up something other than what the “bot” will tell us. The figurative / metaphorical “knowledge routers” are those who copy and paste – and present - what the machine has “compiled” for them. The other objective (point) of this post, is to highlight observations made in some of the other articles on the subject of conference speakers. BTW, as things now, stand, and for the most part, being a conference speaker is a “vanity activity” – and certainly not the “means to an end” – the end being “financial success”. The speakers worth listening to are the “knowledge and idea” originators, for whom there is a growing demand – and “value placed on” – who have come to be known as the Wise Heads and real McCoy’s (and, who can “demand a premium”). These are the speakers who have done the Doing - before doing the Talking. And this is the reason I have claimed: when everyone is extremely proud and humbled to be "speaking" - some need to be doing the “doing”. Furthermore, I have claimed that “Keynote Speakers” should be those who speak from first-hand Knowledge – meaning, what they say comes from “the horse’s mouth” (i.e., is “speaker-originated”). And on this, I have been championing the “upgraded Health Tourism Conference Speakers” - improved quality and usefulness – and the reason I talk about the “vital few” and “inconsequential many”. Unconference: Or, Where’s the Agenda? Ever felt trapped in a traditional conference with a rigid agenda and passive participation? Welcome to the world of unconferences, where the agenda is as flexible as your creativity! After attending several Unconferences (or Open Spaces) this year, I've realized that many people are still unfamiliar with this format. So, I’ve put together a quick overview to explain what an unconference is and why it’s worth trying. OK, but where’s the Agenda? Well, there isn't one—at least not until the day of the event! Each morning, attendees gather for a kickoff. After a few words from the organizers, it’s time for everyone to pitch their ideas. The Four Principles of Open Space Technology. These four principles are the philosophical backbone of any unconference. I love them for they are zen and accepting: 👉 Whoever comes is the right people The people who show up are the ones who are meant to be there. Their presence is all you need to make things happen. 👉 Whatever happens is the only thing that could have happened Let go of expectations. What unfolds is exactly what was supposed to unfold. 👉 Whenever it starts is the right time Creativity doesn’t punch a time clock. The best ideas happen when they’re ready to happen. 👉 When it’s over, it’s over If a session reaches a natural conclusion early, that’s fine—move on and keep the momentum going. Emergent Outcomes: Rather than having predetermined outcomes, the open dialogue allows for solutions and ideas to emerge organically—a perfect storm for intellectual creativity, which is something we desperately need in the identity space! 🌈 My Experience: Participating in an Open Space conference like IIW is an amazing experience. The energy, the spontaneity, and the sheer diversity of ideas were unlike anything I've encountered in more structured settings. It's a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we step outside conventional boundaries and let the collective wisdom of a group take the lead. It's where imagining new solutions starts. On my way. Immensely looking forward to tomorrow’s event in Glasgow. I’ve had great feedback from last night’s workshop two. Participants are set up with critical homework ahead of workshop three next Saturday. Btw, one or two apparently left looking for their link to last night’s webinar until the last minute. They hadn’t read the email sent by Zoom last Friday night at 7:00, providing the recording of workshop one, and the specific link to workshop two. They also got another on Wednesday. Those who looked in their spam or even deleted files found the link on time. The same thing will happen tonight ahead of next Saturday. Please trust the process and trust me. At the last minute, I can’t help anyone who is not thinking through where they might find their link. Zoom does all of that. Maybe open it and save the email as soon as you get it. The list of materials is critical, you need to have them ready to work with at 10:00 am next Saturday, or later via the recording. Trusting me, and the process, you can’t watch workshop three and participate without the materials and the homework done. Delay watching until you are up to date, and can allocate an uninterrupted four hours to work through the life changing methodology. You will need to fully participate in real time, you will be working at deep levels of connection and intuitively responding to specific stimuli. Remember, workshop three is not necessary to thrive on tomorrow’s event, however those who attend can upgrade. Materials will cost around £25. See ya ramora.
