Convergence 14 November 2024 I was just remembering the first "convergence" or "no-fly conference" that was actually the result of a Transition Engineering project. The shift project was to put in extra work organising and downshift fossil fuel use. Seven venues from the top to the bottom of New Zealand met in their local venue with other locals, but connected to the rest of the country through the hard work of university and council IT wizards and super support of a company. This first Convergence was in 2010. We searched and researched and could not find another example of such a conference. It took a good 8 months of design and testing, but the result was quite inspirational according to the attendees. Since 2010, there was a little disruption in Christchurch with our city getting knocked down by earthquakes, but then we got back up and ran several more of these, adding in an overlapping session with the GATE in the UK. The GOOD NEWS is that there will be a Convergence this year 14 November. Please join the global organising committee, and organise your local convergence. We would love to have you involved, organise your own convergence point, come along to the convergence points in Orkney (Florian Ahrens), Edinburgh (Antigoni Vlachouli), London (Daniel Kenning), Chemnitz Germany (Lisa-Marie Nettlenbusch), or Wellington, New Zealand (Grant Symons). Here is the paper explaining how a Convergence has numerous benefits and 1000 times lower emissions.
Just to be clear Susan, the 14/11 event scope is still being worked through. It won't be a 'Conference'.
