I was burnt out and completely exhausted. It was back in 2009 and I was the GM of my first team in Gastonia, NC and I was trying to do it all. Hiring, Sales, Sponsorship, Food and Beverage, Operations, Merchandise, Promotions, you name it. We were a small team and I was overseeing it all. And then I realized it wasn't just because I was doing so many things, it was because I was doing so many things that didn't give me energy.
I then wrote down the parts of the job that gave me energy. For me, it was simple: Whenever I was learning and growing from the best of the best in business, or coming up with ideas and promotions, and then sharing the ideas and talking to the team, media and anyone that would listen, I was on top of the world. I had endless energy and inspiration.
So it was then that I created my energy list and on it was creating, sharing and growing. If I'm doing these every day, I'm the best version of myself and can be the best for my family, my friends and everyone I work with.
I've become obsessed with doing things that give you energy. And I want that for everyone on our team. I believe you should follow your energy, and not just your passion. When you create your energy list and do what gives you energy every day, you can achieve anything.
