Is the stress of getting everything done before annual leave worth the time away? 😂 Very busy day before I head off to Menorca for a few nights to hopefully see a view like this...however, the weather looks a bit 😬 I will be returning on the 18th of September ready for the construction market to boom! 🚀 #Holiday #OutOfOffice #Construction #BuildingProducts #economy #UK #Sales #Marketing #recruitment

First #manifesto out the door is promising for Civil Engineering Contractors Association (National) members. Liberal Democrats published earlier this morning and some solid CECA asks reflected. Hot takes include: Give more of the roads budget to local councils to maintain existing roads, pavements and cycleways, including repairing potholes. Significantly extend the electrification of Britain’s rail network, improve stations, greatly improve disabled access, reopen smaller stations and deliver Northern Powerhouse rail. Delivering Northern Powerhouse Rail to connect cities across the North of England. Reviewing the Conservatives’ cancellation of the northern leg of HS2 to see if it can still be delivered in a way that provides value for money, including by encouraging private investment, or if an alternative is viable. Working with local authorities to implement light rail schemes for trams and tram-trains where these are appropriate solutions to public transport requirements. Establishing a ten-year plan for rail electrification to increase the number of passenger journeys covered by electric trains, investing in other zero-carbon technologies including batteries, and ensuring all new rail lines are electrified as standard. Introducing a national freight strategy to move as much freight as possible from road to rail, supported by a freight growth target and electrification of freight routes. Introducing an international rail strategy to support new routes and operators, and permitting other operators to use the Channel Tunnel and HS1. Devolve greater decision-making powers and resources to local authorities in England to design public transport infrastructure around community needs, including powers to introduce network-wide ticketing as in London. Replacing the broken apprenticeship levy with a broader and more flexible skills and training levy.

Please note the offer below for those Urban Development Institute of New Zealand UDINZ members who want to learn more about Government consultation on the future of vocational education and what it means for them.
It's been a couple of weeks since the Government consultation began on the future of vocational education, and there's less than a month before the deadline for submissions close. To date, we've hosted a series of webinars explaining the options and what they mean for construction and infrastructure employers. Thanks to everyone who has joined us for these. If you couldn't make one of these and would like a briefing, email us at Communications@waihangaararau.nz. Also, see our website for details: https://lnkd.in/gQWpSEdW

South Florida Sun Sentinel published an op-ed attributed to Suffolk's Florida East Coast General Manager Tom Thrasher highlighting the need to attract more young people into trade careers to address the construction labor shortage. In the op-ed, Tom discusses the benefits of pursuing careers in the trades (i.e. diverse career paths, competitive salaries and attractive benefits) and ways vocational schools can recruit and train the next generation of workers. The op-ed also mentions Suffolk’s use of AI, robotics and data to make jobsites safer and more efficient; our strong partnerships with nonprofits that help attract young talent to construction (i.e. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County); and our commitment to the Million Women in Construction pledge to increase the number of women in our industry.

Couldn't agree more, Dan Belcher! The shortage in crucial careers vital for building a stable infrastructure in our country is undeniable. This week, I've had numerous conversations that have underscored the pressing need for Rapid Skilling to effectively bridge this gap. Let's keep the dialogue going on how we can collectively address this challenge. #WorkforceShortage #RapidSkilling #InfrastructureDevelopment
Thank you Stateline for highlighting this crucial need.
The US needs homes. But first, it needs the workers to build them. - Stateline
