It is time to stop this sub-standard #training as the learners are NOT being #trained in an environment that comes near to what they can expect if they had to launch and operate a #lifeboat during an emergency evacuation from an #offshore installation. Everyone talks about #competence in the industry, training coxswains every 2 years WITHOUT any intermediate training, practicing skills, and carrying out realistic drills, will not and does not support the #development of #competence !!! 2 years without #practicing launch #procedures! how would you feel getting into a #helicopter if the #pilot had not had the opportunity to practice landing or taking off in 2 years? why should we expect people to get into a lifeboat (confined space) at height, at night, in high sea states, and in adverse weather conditions with someone at the helm who is not a trained seafarer and has had only basic training every 2 years? Why is this being accepted offshore? Persons who have been given the responsibility to carry out this task should be given the best tools available and nothing less, after all, they are being tasked to save the lives of their colleagues.
