On National Aviation Day, we're highlighting Nick Moore, a pilot and PEC's Survey Processing Team Lead. Nick's love for flying was instilled in him from an early age, but it wasn't until he was well into his career at PEC that he decided to obtain his pilot's license. While working on a large project, Nick was able to fly with a manufacturer on a jet for a quick business trip. It was on that flight that he became fascinated with what was happening in the cockpit. Just two weeks later, he signed up for flight school and began his pilot training. "It took that specific event to push me over the edge to start flight training, and I have PEC to thank for that," said Nick, who has been with the company for 18 years and counting. #PEC #LifeEngineered #EmployeeProfile

Everyone talks about #competence in the industry, training coxswains every 2 years WITHOUT any intermediate training, practicing skills, and carrying out realistic drills, will not and does not support the #development of #competence !!! 2 years without #practicing launch #procedures! how would you feel getting into a #helicopter if the #pilot had not had the opportunity to practice landing or taking off in 2 years? why should we expect people to get into a lifeboat (confined space) at height, at night, in high sea states, and in adverse weather conditions with someone at the helm who is not a trained seafarer and has had only basic training every 2 years? Why is this being accepted offshore? Persons who have been given the responsibility to carry out this task should be given the best tools available and nothing less, after all, they are being tasked to save the lives of their colleagues. Ship handling in the Great Lakes of North America is a complex task that requires total awareness, education, training, and expertise from pilots. Hydrodynamic effects such as squat effect, bank cushion and bank effect are present on our day-to-day operations. Thrust control is the key to maintain minimum speed and ship’s maneuverability against these three prevalent effects in restricted waters. A useful checklist to ensure the safety of pilot transfer 👌
Pilot ladders hot topic with pilots and many others, but can we blame them, don’t we all want to get to work safely ? Think Covid we couldn’t even go outside, but yet when a pilot needs to board by the already dangerous pilot rope ladder, we try to save let’s say $100,- against real IACS certified, some of us probably smoke or drink more then that amount a day 🥶🤷🏻♂️😃 false economy guys, let’s at least provide the best available and get them pilots safely from and too work, no amount of money should be considered to achieve this, for sure not a 100 bucks 🙏🏻✅ take care y’all.
