I am truly honored to be given the opportunity to talk to mentorship in academia at the next Fellowship meeting of Professors Without Borders. Mentorship opportunities are crucial to the success of individuals and any organisation and no less so in academia where mentorship takes on a wide range of functions and spans many different levels and areas of the organization. #globalengagement #internationalisation #highereducation #highereducationleadership #mentoring

United Nations Fellow|| MA International Affairs & Diplomacy|| MPH|| Health & Social Care Management|| Global Health Aficionado|| Aspiring Health Diplomat|| Co-founder of Emoments|| Former SANBio Youth Ambassador
🌟 Introducing the Empowerment Hub! 🌟 I’m beyond grateful for the opportunities I’ve had in my journey, from being selected as one of 10 young leaders (out of 5,000+ applicants) to represent youth on security matters at the UN Summit of the Future by the United Nations Youth Office, to being chosen as a Youth for Biosecurity Fellow with the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs. I’ve had the honor of representing youth on several global platforms, including: ✨ The SA Innovation Summit in South Africa, where our team won first prize for our innovative project, BioGyna, in the pitch competition ✨ Being invited to Slush, the biggest startup event in Finland, to showcase our work These experiences have solidified my belief in the power of youth voices on global stages. Having received numerous requests from young people seeking mentorship on how to secure fellowships, apply for UN-funded events or summits, or become a youth ambassador for regional and international organizations, I’ve decided to take my passion for empowerment a step further. 💡 That’s why I’m launching the Empowerment Hub! 🎉 At the Empowerment Hub, I’ll be sharing: ✅ Tips on securing fellowships ✅ Strategies for applying to UN fully funded events ✅ How to write standout applications to become a youth ambassador ✅ And more! I’ll be the first to admit—I don’t know it all! That’s why I’ll also be interviewing other young, successful people whom I’ve met on these platforms. They’ll be sharing their insights and experiences to offer diverse perspectives on what it takes to succeed. This platform will serve as a space to share insights, tools, and resources I’ve gained along the way, empowering fellow young people to unlock their potential and make their mark on the world stage. 🚀 Let’s ensure that more young voices are heard and youth are represented on both regional and global levels. Stay tuned for updates, and let’s build a future of empowered youth together! 💪 #EmpowermentHub #YouthAmbassadors #Fellowships #Mentorship #Leadership #YouthEmpowerment #GlobalOpportunities #Innovation Moses Ogah Joy Onyia Kauthar Opeyemi Lawal Faith Yina Lorraine Mujuru Ruth Afoko Tanaka Ngwaru Gideon Amoah Shahreen Hasan Abigail Adaramola

Wednesday, March 6, 2024 I attended the general meeting of Student Perspectives: Highlights of the Women's Student Association at Harvard Business School MBA. Previously, the Women's Student Association (WSA) is a student-led organization at Harvard Business School for anyone who identifies as a woman. They're the largest student organization on campus. In the general meeting, I got some introduction points: 1. in the second year, students can gain a lot of new experiences by directly engaging in the field. Having many cooperation partners helps students to increase their knowledge and experience. 2. The classroom atmosphere in the new year is cozy. professors will actively make students have open discussions. 3. In WSA, members can connect with each other so that they can increase their relationships and be empowered in their respective expertise. The topics are light-hearted and add new insight for me.

When Kelvin Nyaga, April J. Remfrey, Jon Springer and I got together today to record a panel discussion on #inclusive #InternationalSchools #culture, for an AAIE (Association for the Advancement of International Education) course commissioned from Parents Alliance For Inclusion, I learned so much. ❓ One of the many things we touched upon was the importance of a school's clearly articulated, and lived and breathed, WHY. Kelvin mentioned that one of the statements his community lives by is "Be who you are", and I shared how, in my last principalship, my community aimed to be somewhere "where everyone can thrive". Whilst they still need to be defined - in such a way that every constituent, regardless of their age, role or identity, can fully understand them - what I love about these two examples is that they can be applied, as a kind of 'litmus test', to pretty much EVERY situation in a school. 🧪 ✅ Some students (or educators) have had a disagreement. How did what preceded this deny one or more of them the chance to "be who you are"? How did it make it difficult for one or more of them to "thrive"? ✅ Holistic, student-level raises some questions and plants some powerful flags. What does this ask us about each students right, without condition or exception, to "be who you are" and to "thrive"? In this way, the guiding statement is part not only of the schools lexicon and vernacular, but also of its very fabric - and becomes a mechanism through which for the whole community to be more inclusive, equitable and just. ⚖️ The other takeaway I wanted to share (and apologies to the grammarphobes amongst you) was the importance of the "present continuous" tense in school #leadership and #StrategicImprovement. I mentioned that a #StudentVoice initiative I introduced to a school in London 20 years ago was intentionally called "Making Learning Better", because to use a different tense would imply the destination can be reached. (I wonder if that was also Matt Hall's thinking with Making Stuff Better Ltd?) Kelvin explained that, whilst he was striving to help make Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) more inclusive, he did not ever talk about it becoming an 'inclusive school'. April agreed, and said that in her work with leadership teams, she emphasises the importance of the journey, as opposed to the destination. I have not reached a destination at any point in my professional or personal life; it has always been a journey, and this has never been more evident to me than it is now. Thank you to Jon Springer, and the Parents Alliance For Inclusion, for convening this panel, and for the kind invitation for me to join. I loved every moment! Love this quote ❤️ even with all the new knowledge on how people (kids & adults) learn, why are we structurally holding on to classroom-style teaching in formal education. Why is there still an expectation that everyone can sit and pay attention during more than 40 minutes? Why do we focus on presentations and theory before letting kids experiment and learn by doing? What will the next improvement on education be to improve (neurodiversity-) inclusion? #inclusion #education #neurodiversity

Calming The Elementary Classroom | Inclusive Learning Strategist | Thought leader | ADHD Education | Public Speaking
So much truth to this! I know. I know teachers already have that demanding workload, and this seems like it may add to their workload. But this is one of those fences I just can’t sit on. Children deserve to be taught in a way they can learn. And I also know that what can and cannot be done in the classroom comes from way above. It’s the policymakers that need the wake up call. There’s more to education than dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s. #adhdeducation #adhd #equalityineducation #neurodiversityclassroom
