In Sub-Saharan Africa, 1.1 billion people own a cell phone, which is expected to double by 2050. This makes Africa a vast market for apps in general. These numbers make the founder of My Personal Health Bank see opportunities for doing business in Africa. The company was founded in Denmark in 2020. Its vision is to empower patients in low- and middle-income countries and people on the move by giving them ownership of their health data and giving healthcare providers access to patients' health data, leading to better healthcare. The opportunities are enormous, Thomas Ahlmann-Liisberg, one of the company's founders, recently told Danish Erhvervplus - Erhverv+. My Personal Health Bank's digital health solution is being implemented in Tanzania, and more markets in Sub-Saharan Africa will follow. We love to see Nordic businesses investing in Africa and doing good while doing it! Heat exposure, sea level rise, and extreme events are creating health impacts across Africa 🌍. As part of our sustainability lens, we have invested in: 👉 Medikea, which provides patients with diagnostic services, consultations, connections to specialists, and pharmacies 🏥 👨⚕️. From diagnosis to treatment, their services cost nearly half of the alternatives – saving patients hundreds of dollars and keeping many from damaging poverty cycles. Financing options that coordinate mobile savings schemes further aid affordability, benefiting vulnerable families. 👉 Eight Medical | Techstars ‘23. Only 8.7% of Africa’s population has access to emergency healthcare. Many people on the continent do not know who to call, where to go, or what to do in an emergency, a problem that will only get worse as climate change impacts accelerate. Eight Medical is a cloud-native EMS (Emeregency Medical Services) platform that provides on-demand urgent care when and where it is needed. The company is building the resilience of people impacted by climate change by solving the problem of preventable deaths linked to a lack of EMS. In #rural Africa, the challenge of long distances has resulted in tragic consequences, particularly for women in childbirth who struggle to reach health clinics with trained professionals. A trial was conducted to assess the impact of our REACT Investee, Mobility for Africa, in transforming this dire situation. The trial specifically focused on the use of Mobility for Africa's innovative #renewable-powered electric tricycles (Hambas) within the health sector in the Wedza and Igava regions of #Zimbabwe. The goal was to address the pressing issues of limited accessibility, appropriateness, and affordability of transportation in rural areas for both health service providers and users. Key highlights from the trial of Hambas: 👉🏾Contributed to increased equity in accessing health services, enabling health workers to reach distant communities and less mobile populations. 👉🏾Boosted health workers' productivity, affording them more time to directly engage in health services. 👉🏾Health workers were empowered to deliver more responsive and people-centered services to the community. In response to early feedback, Mobility for Africa enhanced the tricycle's battery, extending its range to an impressive 100 km on a single charge. This improved version is currently in use in Igava, aligning perfectly with the daily needs of health workers.
