It prevents efficient delivery, prohibits innovation and therefore fails to provide the high-performing infrastructure networks that businesses and the public require. Our current processes, systems and relationships have led us to a culture in which we are regularly in conflict with each other and we do not raise issues until it is often too late to mitigate risks appropriately.  Trust is a huge component of building collaboration, but people cannot build trust just by saying ‘trust me’ or writing it into a contract. This event will look at the different types of trust – between client and supplier, between suppliers working in an Enterprise and between the client and the public / community – and various techniques and tools to help build it at speed, including leveraging data and information. #Project13 #JoinProject13 #trust

A pleasure to attend yesterday’s Major Projects Association event in Birmingham and listen to some great speakers, including Thames Water Leonie Dubois talking around “Consents and Stakeholders: Embracing the Planning Process”. It’s a topic I’m passionate about and continue to advocate for given the importance of planning and consents in Major Projects. Our Executive Managing Director, Paul Chandler (He/Him), this week’s Construction News Forecasting Conference alongside Swati Paul from Skanska and Tony Gates from Sir Robert McAlpine. Chaired by Sam Stacey from Stacx, the panel discussed ‘The Evolving Business Models in Construction’, focusing on the rapidly evolving role of contractors in UK construction and the innovative approaches being adopted to position the industry for success. Paul shared his views on the need for industry disruption, drawing on our Alliance model to deliver the Ministry of Justice UK's A4NP Programme - a culture shift for the industry involving transparent knowledge sharing between four main contractors. He also discussed our construction target of 65% Pre-Manufactured Value, which was put in place for us to deliver greater efficiency and predictability and with a default to use our Prism offsite manufacturing facility to support this. The biggest focus of the session was around technology and its enormous potential to disrupt the construction industry, acting as a catalyst for change in terms of project delivery and the skills we employ to apply it. "By embracing technology and the power of data we can transform the way we make decisions and operate - creating improvements in quality, predictability, and productivity. Imagine a world where we are able to deliver services to our customers which are proven digitally before any physical work commences, with defined supply chain partners, quicker and with lower overall capital and life cycle costs…I’m all for disruption – sign me up!" Today DDC released the Strategic Blueprint Progress Update, an update to Blueprint 2022. The new document outlines how we can continue to improve project delivery for the City of New York. Delivering best-in-class public works to every community in the City requires reforming the process through which capital projects are delivered. The effort demands change on every level: within DDC, among City agencies, and legislative action by the State. This new document is our demand for strong advocates to stand with us to improve the processes that create public buildings and infrastructure.   We continue to advocate for legislation that would expand the City’s alternative delivery toolkit, including CM-build for building renovations and Progressive Design-Build for resiliency. We also continue to push for legislation that would extend Joint Bidding authorization for ten years as well as turn DDC into an Authority.   The document further details DDC’s accomplishments in the last two years, including launching our Advanced Capital Planning portal and pilot program; our partnership with other agencies to streamline design reviews and approvals; and more. But our work is not yet done – we are actively engaged with industry partners on updating and changing DDC’s own contracts and business practices.   DDC’s work is critically important and we must continue to build on our progress.
