Big thanks for all your interest and valuable inputs to our last Expert Group Meeting. It was great to see so many of you in Brussels and online. You will find the presentations and recordings at the links below. While developing the certification methodologies, we also need action on the ground. This is why I am very happy to promote the new 2024 call for the EU Mission A Soil Deal for Europe. There are EUR 33 million available for two amazing projects: 🔹 Development of high spatial-resolution monitoring approaches and geographically-explicit registry for carbon farming (HORIZON-MISS-2024-SOIL-01-07), and 🔹 Managing forest peat soils (HORIZON-MISS-2024-SOIL-01-08) This call opens on 8 May 2024, and the deadline for applicants to submit proposals will be 8 October 2024. Please consult the call for proposals and submit your proposals here: https://lnkd.in/er5sJuRx

CERTIFICATION FRAMEWORK: THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS A few days after the conclusion of negotiations on the European Union’s carbon removals certification Framework (CRCF), I4CE helped organise the European Carbon Farming Summit in Valencia, as part of the CREDIBLE project. The high level of stakeholder participation at the summit testifies to the expectations that this new tool will contribute to a better economic valuation of carbon farming practices. The summit raised high hopes for improving and harmonising carbon measurement to certify projects, in particular through remote sensing, in a sector where there is a great deal of uncertainty. While it is vital to improve measurement and monitoring, uncertainty must not be allowed to justify inaction, and the key is to find the right balance between cost and accuracy. https://lnkd.in/gHnN-qPS

"In #ClimateFarmDemo, we face the challenge of relating demonstration events to climate-smart farming," says Laure Triste from ILVO (Instituut voor Landbouw, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek), leaders of Work Package 1 and coordinators of the sister project ClimateSmartAdvisors. 🍀 Laure's work package aims to establish and manage a demonstration farm network while driving dynamic knowledge exchange and capacity building to foster climate-smart farming (CSF). Using a cyclical planning, monitoring, and evaluation approach, the project will create principles for network management and knowledge sharing at both national and European levels. Additionally, this work package will act as the project's internal training center, enhancing the skills of farmers, and climate farm advisors. 💪🏻📈 Discover the synergy between these two projects and how they will enhance each other. See how ClimateFarmDemo will revolutionize farm networks and knowledge exchange. 🎉1,500 farms around Europe have joined the Climate Farm Demo (CFD) network! We are excited to share this major milestone: the #CFD project has succeeded in recruiting almost 1,500 #farms across Europe to join its network. The spectrum of agricultural systems among those farms is very wide. 💡 What does this mean and why is this an important step? It shows that the farming community is ready to embrace #climate smart practices and is interested in implementing #adaptation and #mitigation measures! This network of committed farms will enable CFD to consolidate actions on the ground to promote and disseminate a whole range of #ClimateSmartFarming practices within European farming communities. The role of Ecologic Institute within the CFD project is to analyse rewarding mechanisms to understand their relevance and appropriateness for funding climate-smart farming, describing successful examples of rewarding mechanisms and their outcomes as appropriate for different stages of transition and provide recommendations for scaling them up.
