Health care teams dedicate their time, energy, and effort to each shift, always putting their patients' needs first. Because of this, they may not always prioritize their own well-being. Leave a message of encouragement in the comments.

"We need to expand the definition of health to include life. 'Cause when life goes wrong, health goes wrong." -- Alexandra Drane One of the single biggest opportunities to improve healthcare in the U.S.? Supporting unpaid caregivers — as healthcare systems, employers, brands, communities, and peer-to-peer. Caring a lot can take a toll — 70% of us have at least one mental-health impact and, for those of us with our own chronic conditions, showing up for others makes it even harder for us to put on our own air masks. An easy step one: take two minutes and find out your Intensity Score and get connected to things that can help. https://lnkd.in/dHkkCHac Big love to GBH for having us and to Susannah Fox and Allen Sussman for sharing our ferocity in doing all we can to help humans do what they do best — care.

The secret to elevating patient satisfaction and care lies in a straightforward practice: ensuring patients comprehend their healthcare information. When we prioritize checking patient understanding, we empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health, fostering a more positive healthcare journey. Despite the proven benefits, only 25% of patients report that their providers take the time to ensure patient comprehension, demonstrating the untapped potential for enhancing patient satisfaction and outcomes. (As reported by AHRQ). To improve health literacy, keep it Simple- Take the first step in advancing health literacy by asking your patients if they understand their healthcare information. #healthliteracy #teachback #SimpleDoc

At UMass Memorial Health, we understand that making decisions about your health care can be a challenging and emotional process, especially when it comes to planning for advanced care. This involves thinking about and discussing your health care preferences with your loved ones and health care providers before you are unable to make decisions for yourself. We can make our wishes known by designating a healthcare proxy and having a conversation with them about their role. Additionally, we can complete an advanced care plan and then communicate our plan with our loved ones, as well as your care team. Although we can’t plan for everything that will happen in our lives, and these discussions may be challenging to have; they are critical to helping communicate what we want if we can’t do that ourselves. I have been writing about the failure of America’s illness profit system for over 30 years, and it has been getting worse and worse as the years have gone by. The United States has the worst healthcare amongst developed democracies as factually demonstrated by the worse factual outcome data. Highest maternal mortality, highest infant mortality, lowest rank in healthcare systems, and on and on. Here is some current to the day facts about how bad our healthcare system is. The question is why does America have such poor healthcare? The answer, of course, is the same thing that afflicts all American society. U.S. healthcare is not a system designed to foster wellbeing; it is all about maximizing profit. So then, one has to ask why can’t the Congress create universal birthright single-payer healthcare like the other developed democracies. The answer, once again, is the corruption of the Congress. Corporations involved with healthcare pour hundreds of millions of legalized graft into the pockets of politicians, particularly, but not only, TCP politicians.
