In the lead up to #WorldHumanitarianDay, we honor the 456 aid workers who lost their lives in service to others in 2023 and 2024. These tragic losses underscore the urgent need to protect humanitarian workers and uphold International Humanitarian Law. Project HOPE calls on world leaders to investigate and prosecute violations, ensuring accountability for attacks on aid workers and civilians. As crises multiply globally, we must safeguard those who risk everything to help communities in need. Join us in remembering fallen colleagues and demanding action to protect humanitarian spaces. https://lnkd.in/g4iX3Whj

The World Health Organization (WHO) has just declared the upsurge of mpox in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and several other African countries a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). As an international community, we must support the immediate scale up of response and ensure equitable access to vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics and other tools. Together, we can make a difference in combating this mpox outbreak and strengthening global health security.
In light of the spread of #mpox outside #DRC, and the potential for further international spread within and outside Africa, I have decided to convene an Emergency Committee under the International Health Regulations to advise me on whether the outbreak represents a public health emergency of international concern. The committee will meet as soon as possible and will be made up of independent experts from a range of relevant disciplines from around the world.
