PL posts will be fewer in the summer months, thanks to my three favorite people being home. But this doesn’t mean PLs impact isn’t growing deeper and wider! Here are some highlights from the past two weeks! -brainstorming partnership with Ukraine orphan ministry -watching Festa serve such a beautiful pocket of Columbus community -sending bookmarks to a family to distribute in El Salvador -partnering with Milwaukee police for an annual community event -presenting to an entertainer for a future show benefit -and to a Florida optimist club who serves children. Here’s my favorite - a Spanish registration from a hostel: “They gave me my bunny because I have to wait to be with my mommy again.” One child, one word at a time. You are loved no matter what.

HOW TO REACH YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY Are you ready to achieve community outreach goals for the church you lead? An integrated plan is your secret weapon. Many churches try one-off approaches and give up when they don't work. However this course mines the wisdom of 25 years of my helping churches achieve effective community outreach for a fraction of the price of a consultancy. You will get all the inspiration you need and a step by step plan that you can implement straight away. There are tools, a sermon series, and helps for beleivers to feel confident about their faith. There is great spiritual interest in the community you serve because God is already at work in lives and hearts. Take a step towards your community today, so they can know Jesus! Contains 8 short modules or steps: Introduction 1. Who is my local community and what are its needs? 2. What are our strengths? 3. Build a missional pathway 4. Equip others 5. Increase prayer for the local community 6. Live it out Evaluation - self and course Click link to find out more about the course: https://lnkd.in/gVbJaNze

The amazing organisation that is #parkrun is 20 years old today. There is clear evidence of the significant impact it has on mental health, local community cohesion and encouraging people into/back into exercise. Through a recent research project on parkrun, published in the #EuropeanJournalofMarketing, I explored how innovative it's approach to volunteering was. A complete game changer with flexible roles, flexible commitment and a genuine sense of ownership. You can read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/en5YGv-c
Can you believe it? We’re 20 today! 🎉 From 13 runners and 5 volunteers on Saturday 2 October 2004, to a worldwide community of millions today. Check out our journey 👉 http://parkrun.me/75x1z #TheFeelGoodMovement

What are the four principles the Sisters live by? Sister Jill Reuber shines a light on each principle through our vocations blog, starting with the importance of valuing and fostering community. “Our community adapts and evolves as the world changes, so that we can continue to seek God in this time and place, and to minister to His people where they are today. We laugh together, learn together, love together, grieve together and grow together, united by God’s presence in our hearts and lives.” Read more at https://lnkd.in/gsys5T26

Do you live in a neighborhood? Or are you truly living in a community? There is a difference. Marlene Mier, Sarah Cotterill, & Carrie Allen understand the "ancient truth" of what community means. Community is about people working together, supporting one another, and helping people be their authentic self - and so much more. These ladies helped me better understand just how much we have walked away from the idea of community. And just how much we need to move back to the idea of community. People are looking for hope: How can I make ends meet? Where do I belong? Do I have any value? The local Church has a major opportunity to be hope-bringers. There is lots of really good church-led community activity going on – Faithworks are mapping all of this as we speak as part of the first year’s learning from the 'We’re here Network' which we started with local churches to help them be as effective as they can at welcoming people in during those 110 hours. But there are questions: What works? How do we integrate practical and spiritual help that sets people free? What is hard? How do we find volunteers to chat and/or pray, keep activities going during holidays? What would help? Where should we invest our resources? Moorlands and Faithworks invite you and your compassion/community lead to a conversation at Moorlands College to share good practice and dig into these questions. We are running two sessions - come to whichever one suits you and your team best, or both to get a broader overview of what is happening across our local communities. Tuesday 18th June 2024 Session 1: 10am-12pm, Session 2: 7-9pm Hosted at Moorlands College, Wessex Auditorium, BH23 7AT Sign Up: https://buff.ly/4bVMGWO
