We had a great time being "Presente" with our friends Poderistas at their town hall in Chicago this week! It was so inspiring to hear from Latinas about the issues that matter to them, from immigration reform to the economy, and how we have been and can continue to build our own safety net with community ties and social support. ✨

Reflecting on Inmigrant Journeys at the Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty This weekend, after 17 years in the US, I finally visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Standing there, I was struck by the stories of over 12 million immigrants who passed through Ellis Island—ancestors to more than 100 million Americans, nearly a third of the population. As a first-generation immigrant, I couldn't help but draw parallels between my journey and those brave pioneers. Unlike my journey, theirs was fraught with peril and uncertainty. Approximately 2% of people who arrived at Ellis Island were sent back due to health, economic, or social issues. Yet, those who persevered found a land of opportunity for themselves and their families. Immigration has always been a cornerstone of American innovation and job creation. Our nation thrives on the diversity of backgrounds, where anyone can start a company and contribute to our shared prosperity. This is a direct result of the freedoms and liberties enshrined in our Constitution - a novel concept for much of the old world, even in the 21st Century, where dictators, strong governments, police and thugs create fear in the lives of ordinary people. I know it because I experienced those firsthand before moving to the US. As long we have a thriving immigration and entrepreneurial ecosystem, respect for our rule of law and the constitutional protections, we will continue to be a world leader in innovation. Let's celebrate the spirit of immigration and the limitless opportunities it brings to our great nation. 🇺🇸 #AmericanDream #EllisIsland #StatueOfLiberty #FirstGeneration #Immigration #Opportunity #Innovation #SharedProsperity

📢Today is International Day of Families. 🧑🧑🧒🧒Migration significantly influence families whether as a result of seeking opportunities, reuniting with loved ones or escaping conflict. While migration can strengthen familial bonds, it also poses challenges including forced separation, cultural adjustment, and legal barriers. ⚖️As we commemorate this day, we must strive to uphold the rights and dignity of all families, irrespective of their migratory status. 🔗Explore more on UK family migration issues in our Knowledge Centre: https://lnkd.in/eBMnYswf
