Cooking with my daughter has become a cherished weekend tradition. Beyond the joy and fun of cooking together, these moments have highlighted the importance of clear and detailed communication. Each time we step into the kitchen, I'm reminded of the necessity to provide thorough and precise instructions. This practice has not only enhanced my ability to guide her but has also significantly improved my communication skills in professional settings. By teaching her to follow a recipe, I’ve learned to be more explicit and comprehensive in my explanations. It’s fascinating how an activity as simple as baking can offer lessons in effective communication. I encourage you to find similar opportunities in your daily life that can help refine your professional skills. This past weekend I joined a bartending course through Midwest Bartenders School. It's a 3 weekend course that goes from 9-4 on Saturday and Sunday....pretty intensive and A LOT of time. 🍺 🍷 🍸 Why would I do this when I have a career I love? 1. I love to learn and grow. 2. Alternate skill sets - who knows what the future holds. 3. Part-time flexible work - I can work night and weekend events to make extra money for ALL the travel I want to do! 4. Bartending is a skill that will ALWAYS be needed. 5. Learning to make drinks - while I'm not a regular drinker I do enjoy a good cocktail - why not learn to make them at home. 6. Actively using my hands for more than TYPING --- anyone else get tired of pounding the keyboard all day. I can say this after one weekend - let me make you a Cosmopolitan, I think I got that one down 😉

During Term 1, International students from Firbank Grammar and Brighton Grammar participated in a cooking social event held in the BGS BHIVE Kitchen.
