Safety starts with what's under the hard hat… In construction, we often focus on physical safety daily, but mental health has often been overlooked. Just as we ensure our crew's physical safety each shift, let's also commit to their mental well-being to ensure they return safely tomorrow. If you've lost anyone in construction to suicide, then you know how important this issue is. It runs deep in this industry. Deeper than we like to admit. Workers in high-stress environments constantly being told to "suck it up", "man up" or "bite the bullet". It's a ticking time bomb. But it's an issue we're working to eliminate all together. We make it a point to show as much support as possible to folks in the field and provide them with the tools they need to strengthen their mental health. Mental safety is just as important as physical safety, and our workers deserve to know that we care. Show some love to someone in construction this week! 🧡 #construction #constructionsuicidepreventionweek #mentalhealth

Happy #Pride Month! Pride month is mental health. Pride month is suicide prevention. Pride month in construction is construction safety. When our co-workers, employees, peers, and trade partners know they are safe with us, we know they are better able to focus on their work, and perform their tasks safely. When people know they are safe with us, we know that the liklihood of suicide is greatly reduced, in an industry which is already experiencing an extremely increased risk. You are safe with me.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and today starts Construction Safety Week. The construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates in the nation. 53 of every 100,000 construction workers die from suicide. That rate is about four times higher than the national suicide rate of 14 of every 100,000 people and is five times greater than all other construction fatalities combined. Honored to speak at a construction safety huddle this morning about mental illnesses and substance use disorders. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #constructionsafetyweek #thomasconstruction
