𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐬 & 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐮𝐛 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐲: Urban Pubs & Bars, the London pub operator founded by Malc Heap and Nick Pring and backed by Davidson Kempner and Global Mutual, has reopened the Clapton Hart in London’s Hackney – one of 11 former Antic Pubs sites it acquired in August. The pub, which dates back to 1722, has reopened following a £1.2m refurbishment, with new features and a refreshed menu. The pub’s transformation includes a redesigned dining room and a garden revamped for year-round use, including covered huts, while a menu of hearty pub classics will be complemented by beers from local breweries, including Haggerston’s Signature Brewery. The acquisition of the portfolio which included the Clapton Hart followed the 13-strong Antic Pubs entering administration earlier this year. The pub was formerly operated by Reid’s Brewery and Charrington, and after closing in 2008, it was revived by Antic in 2012 before its recent closure and subsequent rescue. Chris Hill, managing director of Urban Pubs & Bars, said: “Saving the Clapton Hart is exactly what Urban Pubs & Bars is all about – preserving London’s rich pub culture, supporting local communities and giving historic venues the love they deserve. We’re thrilled to reopen this iconic pub just in time for Christmas, and we can’t wait to see everyone back, celebrating together in this amazing space.”

This was such a fun and informative Distill Ventures seminar I got to participate in moderated by Derek Brown. This is part of a series with topics Derek and DV have designed around all aspects of navigating the non-alcoholic category. 🍸🍹 People tend to lump what we are seeing with NA options into “the latest trend,” but really, this is unlike anything any of us have seen before, (mostly because we weren’t alive!) This isn’t like the tequila craze, or the bourbon boom; those were/are trends resulting from the masses RE-discovering, ( with a little help from celebrities and marketing 💰) a spirit, and then the world deep diving into them. Those options were always around, people just started paying more attention. With non-alcoholic spirits, what we are witnessing is the result of pure innovation! This is a BRAND NEW category (that didn’t even exist prior to 2015 ) JUST getting going. It’s like seeing the invention of gin in the 1500’s or vodka in the 1100’s! 🤯This is an entirely new spirit category and an option that I would guess ( based on everyday conversation) 1/3 people still don’t realize exists for them. If you haven’t checked these seminars out, definitely do! They have already covered some great topics, and will continue to do so. And a big thank you to Derek and Distill Ventures for creating this platform for education so that we can navigate this new category together, and watch as NA spirits make their mark on history! #nonalcoholic #spiritindustry #cocktails #menu #innovation

Winery, distillery, brewery, importers and supermarkets (own label range) are invited to enter in the London Competitions. With the early bird deadline of November 30, now is the time to seize this opportunity to showcase the quality, innovation, and authenticity of your craft beverages to the world. These prestigious competitions are judged by the UK’s top sommeliers, beverage buyers, and hospitality experts. Unlike other competitions, the London Competitions evaluate entries based on three key factors: Quality: How the product tastes, including balance, structure, and complexity. Value: The product’s price-to-quality ratio, ensuring it delivers exceptional worth for its category. Packaging: The visual appeal and practicality of the design, crucial for attracting consumers.
