Leadership styles are one of the participants' favourite topics within the Art of Leadership module of our Leadership Development Program. The study of this subject usually provides participants with many insights and reflection. 1. First, we ask our participants to define, using a checklist, the leadership style that their team needs at that particular moment in time. 2. Then we use the Saville Assessment questionnaire to identify the most natural leadership style for each person. Someone is lucky enough to have the natural leadership style the team needs right now. Some realise that they need to learn other styles to be more effective in working with their people. Using the 4 Birds Analogy to describe the DISC Behavioral Framework. This exercise generated a lot of energy as well as many Aha! moments for the participants at a recent Leadership Training event. The participants are all Leaders who have the challenge of managing their diverse staff well plus communicating and collaborating effectively with colleagues. Even without completing a comprehensive personal assessment, almost all of them were able to identify with the primary characteristics of the bird they chose to represent themselves. They were also able to appreciate the nuances of this proven framework and how it helps to relate to others as well. This was so encouraging for me: 1. I have learnt to make this framework easily understood and applicable. 2.
