Reminder: #Pride doesn't end just because June ends. At Centennial Peaks, all are welcome here - this fact is woven into the fabric of the work we do every day, not just #PrideMonth. In the spirit of continuing awareness, support and allyship, here's a snapshot of our bulletin board in our main hallway that reminds us every day. Here are five ways to continue allyship beyond the month of June: 1.) Educate yourself: Learn all about the history of the LGBTQ+ community, it's history and challenges. 2.) Donate: Give back to the LGBTQ+ community by donating to an affiliated non-profit. 3.) Increase LGBTQ+ Inclusivity in the Workplace: If your workplace doesn't have a culture that promotes LGBTQ+ inclusivity, speak to your manager about ways to be more inclusive to this community. 4.) Watch a documentary on The Stonewall Riots. Learn how it all began by watching an informative documentary on the Stonewall Riots and all the events that preceded and followed them. 5.) Be supportive: If someone you know is LGBTQ+, be a supportive friend on their journey. Though mental health is pervasive across humanity, marginalized groups tend to be at higher risk of struggling. Be an ally, educate yourself and be a good human!

JND Legal Administration, support that is superficial is getting called out these days. Supporting the LGBTQ+ community requires more than making a post and supporting gay white men… you’ve still got to work on eliminating racism and sexism in your workplace before you can be any kind of positive ally. Yes, I know Jennifer Keough and Neil Zola (who has either removed his profile, or is a sexist and racist coward who blocked me) don’t care. However, Jen seems to care about her social media image and Neil seems to care about liability. A push on both could help towards change. Holding yourself to the standards of Seattle would help your social media image, reduce liability, and if done correctly, would increase both morale and productivity. It's essential to address the issue of gatekeeping in funding allocation within organizations claiming to serve marginalized communities. The practice of using the "T" in LGBTQ to secure maximum funding for trans individuals, while not effectively supporting or serving them, is DIABOLICAL WORK. Many cisgender-led organizations prioritize funding over genuine service delivery to the trans community, even though local Trans-led organizations are actively engaged in providing essential support and services. This disparity highlights the need for transparency and accountability in resource allocation. As a Black Trans ED navigating funding opportunities, being aware of these challenges is crucial. Upholding integrity and ensuring that resources reach those who need them the most is key to fostering inclusivity and equity within the nonprofit sector. #FundingEquity #TransRights #NonprofitLeadership

🌈 Beyond the Rainbow: Seeking Substance Over Symbols 🌈 As Pride month unfolds, we witness a surge of rainbow logos and themed merchandise. While visibility is crucial, it's essential to ask: Are these colorful displays backed by real support and inclusion? "Rainbow washing" risks reducing a powerful movement for equality to mere marketing. True ally-ship involves more than just seasonal changes in branding. It means advocating for policies that protect LGBTQI+ rights, fostering an inclusive workplace culture year-round, and supporting LGBTQI+ initiatives and charities not just in June, but consistently. As consumers and professionals, let's demand more than just surface-level support: 1. Transparency: Are companies open about their contributions and policies regarding LGBTQI+ rights? 2. Consistency: Do these companies show continuous support, or is their commitment limited to Pride month? 3. Today is the final day of Pride Month. But Pride should continue in our actions, our words and our support for friends, family members, employees and everyone in the LGBTIQA+ community. Pride Month is certainly a reminder to us that the community has made amazing strides in being out, being visible and creating advocacy. To me it also marks a sad recognition of the continued, frightening shift towards more violence, more anti-LTBGTA+ legislation and more hate. That is why we need to strive be visible and active Allies, for example by voting for people who truly support the community, contributing to non-profits like the Trevor Project, displaying an Ally pin and engaging in 1-1 conversations.  I ask the community here to do the same, both during Pride Month and year round. I recently had a conversation with a friend about pronouns – why did my youngest change their name, redefine their gender identity and use the pronouns he/him and they / them. My response was that I use the name they adopted and pronouns they use because they are words with meaning for them and therefore also for me. It also simply isn’t up to me, but rather an act of love and respect for how a person wants to live their life.
