Talked to the Financial Times and the superb Jim Pickard about the merits of businesses attending party conferences this year. The new political reality means corporates should only be going to Conservative conference if they have a specific reason to do so. The timelines for the Tory leadership contest certainly don't help. More generally, we advise our clients to think clearly about their reasons for going to conferences. Don't go just for the sake of it. Networking is fine, but have a clear rationale for going. The Most Influential People in the Event Industry in 2024 include many people we all know and many tech people, some of whom we know. It has been a crazy year with lots of pluses. The list is presented in alphabetical order and contains the likes of many we see/communicate with regularly and tend to forget the load they bear. Each voter is allowed ten votes. I went to the end of the list and started backward. You can find the list at https://lnkd.in/eRMpN5xc. Once you pick your choices (you must log in to vote) and reach 10, you leave the site and can go back to edit because it retains your choices. Many of our industry leaders are on the list, such as Paul VanDeventer, Annette Gregg, CMM MBA Carina Bauer CED, Sherrif Karamat Amy Calvert Michael Dominguez, FASAE, CHSE, and folks like Tyler Davidson Tahira Endean, MsC, CITP, CMP, CED, and so many others. 104 London Debaters Toastmasters Club • District 91 Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 6:30 PM - 9 PM Debate Workshop: Research to Win Online event Online Debate on Zoom Debate Workshop on the crucial debating skills of interpreting a motion and then doing efficient research to help win the debate, presented by Debate Coach, former politician and ex-President of 104 London Debaters, William Hagerup. Drawing on material from some of the leading modern debate experts in the world of debating, Debate Coach and former Club President William, will explore: 1 . How do you approach a motion - what is the best way to interpret it for your side of the debate? 2 . What are some key techniques you can use to make your research efficient and less time-consuming, but still enable you to build a strong case for your side? 3 . Practical exercises - there will be a number of activities to enable you to apply the techniques learned. William has been debating since the age of 16 and since joining 104 in 2020 has been an active member, serving as VP Mentoring, Club President and VP PR. "Many people forget that a motion can be interpreted in many different ways, and that your research must follow on from your understanding of the motion.
