🚀 Hydrogen-Electric Propulsion 🛩️ Stellar Jet has introduced a hydrogen-electric ducted fan propulsion system for a regional hybrid VTOL aircraft. The system unveiled at Payerne Airport operates with hydrogen fuel and emits only water vapor. 🔍 The aim is clean aviation, with contributions from BMW Group Designworks, Leonardo Aerostructures, and Sauber Group F1. The ignition demonstration showcased hydrogen’s potential, but key questions remain: scalability, hydrogen sourcing, and efficiency. ⚖️ Hydrogen-electric systems offer a promising path, but challenges in infrastructure, cost, and lifecycle emissions must be addressed. The aviation sector’s transition requires a holistic approach—energy supply, efficiency, and regulatory support all play a role. 🌍 Moving forward, it will be crucial to evaluate techno-economic feasibility and sustainability beyond direct emissions. That's number one! $100 million of investors money down the drain. Hydrogen is no solution for aircraft. Using H2 as a fuel is a complete waste of energy. First of all it takes vast amounts of green energy to produce these amounts of H2. https://lnkd.in/emajGpiz 2) there is almost no infrastructure in place to provide all the airports with H2. The gas grid in most countries is not suitable for transporting H2. https://lnkd.in/eqzdcdr5 3) the extra heavy and large cryogenic/compressed hydrogen tanks will reduce the payload of an aircraft by at least 15-40% https://lnkd.in/eGN8-SGG 4) The re-fuelling of H2 planes is going to be a lot more difficult due to the fact that 1000 litres of liquid H2 weighs only 71 kg not accounting for the problems when handling H2 of -252 degrees C. https://lnkd.in/e2UhpGxB 5) there are serious safety issues with the use of H2. 40 grams of hydrogen has the explosive of 1 kg TNT 6) Airbus says they have a production model ready by 2035. A #hydrogen first in the French skies! 🇫🇷 Aircraft manufacturer Beyond Aero has recently completed France's first manned flight powered entirely by hydrogen-electric technology, with its Blériot prototype, at the Gap-Tallard airfield. ✈️ The plane, which operates on 1.2 kg of gaseous hydrogen stored in three tanks and batteries, successfully completed 10 takeoffs, reaching a climbing speed of 110 km/h.
