If you find yourself using too much plastic even if you don't want to, it's because there has been a concerted effort to create a system whereby you can't avoid it. The plastics industry, and the fossil fuel industry at large, constantly look after their own interests, at the expense of ours. Even when we have tried to regulate the use and production, the plastics industry "has responded by fighting regulations that could hurt demand for its products. It says the solution to environmental problems is better recycling, not using less plastic." Even though "plastics industry representatives long knew that recycling would probably never be effective on a large scale." The plastics industry constantly gaslight us into thinking that we are the problem saying that we are not recycling enough, or that we're the one littering. But they have been the ones working in the background ensuring that the systems make the problems inevitable. We have to lobby our governments to regulate these industry. Manufacturer plastic only for necessary uses and end the creation of convenience plastics such as single use plastic bags or bottles. We have no choice but to do the hard things now, so we don't need to do the harder things later. https://lnkd.in/e5qaDVbx

"We should be wary of demonising plastic without subjecting other materials to the same level of scrutiny. I find pubs and restaurants more willing to offer paper straws to customers – far more than they were with plastic straws. The result is potentially more waste than before. Let us not pretend that simply using an alternative to plastic is a panacea" It is not. Plastics are most often, also from an environmental point of view, the best solutions, when necessary, compared to any other materials! The entire full life cycles must be careful evaluated. From extraction/production , to use, to end of first life and the collecting for recycling (not always the best at all) or incinerator for producing electrical energy or heating. https://lnkd.in/ehp_Attd

“For at least three decades, the industry has misled the public about what really is recyclable.” Recycling is not the solution out of the plastic crisis, industries claiming that plastics are “recyclable” which in reality found discarded everywhere. Hence, we must push for a strong Global Plastic Treaty that provides realistic solutions and enforce an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) addressing the full life-cycle of plastics. #plastics #GlobalPlasticsTreaty #ExtendedProducerResponsibility #EPR #plasticslifecycle

Did you know every company does eventually? Either thru bankruptcies or mergers they disappear. Their growth rates also match a biological maturation curve. That’s another story tho.  The truth is that every company that doesn’t do the right thing today will eventually replaced. Will they be replaced by yours?
