The sad truth includes that harassment and violence needs to be better understood, openly spoken about and front of mind. As well as people sharing experiences to create awareness, each person must become self-responsible in this shared problem in our world. This is not a women’s problem, this is a human problem. I really wish this video (Click on Shelley's post below) wasn't an accurate reflection of a "day in a week of a working woman". But it is. And even more unfortunate, this was filmed almost 6 years ago and not much has changed. In fact, I used to be the female in the room asked to take notes and get coffee when I actually was supposed to be "leading" the meeting. This was taking place 20-30 years ago. 2024, International Women's Day theme #inspireinclusion is meant to help us take action. US = EVERYONE! this is not just for women to change. #collaborativeallyship can be the catalyst for change at your workplace that makes sure this behavior is noticed, considered wrong, and stops. What are you doing everyday to be inclusive for everyone in your organization? What actions are you taking in a meeting, building a team, during an event that shows your active sponsorship to show all humans the respect they deserve for the unique characteristics they bring to the table? I try to say things like "to support {Mary's} idea" rather than "what I think {Mary} was trying to say". I say things like "that is inappropriate to ask {her} to get your coffee, perhaps you could get your own today". I try and question myself "do I have the right diversity on this team to solve this problem?" I ask myself "is this the way I would want my daughter, sister, niece, to be treated at work?" If this answer is no, then I feel obligated to say or do something. What can you do? Let's not wait until March.
