I am thrilled to share the certificate on the webinar of " Antimicrobial Stewardship Webinar" Organized by RxConnectPK. Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is a coordinated program that aims to improve patient outcomes by promoting the appropriate use of antimicrobials, such as antibiotics. This includes the selection, dosage, route, and duration of administration of antimicrobial agents. AMS can also help reduce the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms, microbial resistance, and unnecessary antibiotic use. Some principles of AMS include: Using an evidence-based approach to diagnose and determine if an antimicrobial drug is needed Making an informed selection of an appropriate antimicrobial drug and regimen Identifying barriers to appropriate antimicrobial prescribing and usage

Recently, gentamicin, an antibiotic approved for medical use in 1964, is no longer recommended for the treatment of Pseudomonas infections. This does not come as a surprise, since antimicrobial resistance is a naturally occurring process. The more exposure to an antibiotic, the more likely resistance will occur. To counter this, appropriate utilization of antibiotics is key! #prescriberesponsibly #antimicrobialresistance #antimicrobialstewardship #infectiousdiseases #infectionprevention #infectioncontrol https://lnkd.in/eUU3rrrT

🧪 #Tetracyclines are powerful broad-spectrum antibiotics, stopping bacteria by blocking protein synthesis. They’re used for infections like acne, respiratory and urinary tract infections, and certain STIs. 🔬 #Unique_Strength: Tetracyclines can enter host cells, making them effective against intracellular pathogens like Chlamydia and Rickettsia. 🌟 #New_Options: Recent additions like omadacycline, sarecycline, and eravacycline offer more targeted treatments with fewer side effects. ⚠️ #Side_Effects: Watch for stomach upset, photosensitivity 🌞, and potential tooth discoloration 🦷. Use responsibly to help fight resistance! #tetracyclines #antibiotics #pharmacology #pharmacystudent #medicine #healthcare

With the rise of antibiotic resistance, it is prudent for us to be selective with which conditions we prescribe antibiotics for. But, developments such as this give us hope that complicated and antibiotic resistant strains can still be covered in the future despite the problem that we have created today. Great summary of the study, anyone interested can read the full study in the link below the article. https://lnkd.in/g9NV4Ag8

💊A new antibiotic may make it possible to treat a range of lethal hospital infections, according to a new study. > Zosurabalpin appears to work against the ‘priority level-one critical pathogen’ Acinetobacter baumannii by destroying its ability to assemble a highly protective double-walled membrane. > At present, the so-called Crab bacterium is resistant to many known antibiotics and kills about 40-60% of the people it infects. > But the US-Swiss study demonstrated zosurabalpin’s ability to prevent Crab forming properly in mouse and test tube studies - leading experts to predict it could be effective against other bacteria. Antimicrobial resistance. - antibiotics are highly efficient at destroying most of the bacteria but not all . - some bacteria hold genes that make them resist antibiotics. - this survival from treatment makes resistant bacteria reproduce spreading the key genes more widely, thus the drug becomes less effective. -if somebody is infected with these resistant microbes it becomes hard to deploy antibiotics to treat them successfully. https://lnkd.in/djmWu7dg

#SharingMyResearch on SSETs Bacterial infections are becoming resistant to standard treatments, so we need to improve existing antibiotics. Ciprofloxacin is effective but has issues like poor solubility, rapid breakdown, and quick clearance from the body, leading to inadequate treatment and side effects. We combined ciprofloxacin hydrochloride with sodium cholate to create a new complex. This combination enhances ciprofloxacin's effectiveness and prolongs its antibacterial activity, aiming to provide better and longer-lasting treatment for infections. #SSETs @ForeignCommonwealthand Development office @Lancaster University, @British Council,@National University Commission(NUC), @Enugu State University of Science & Technology(ESUT) @Chike Anibueze @AkanimoOdon @ViolaAkhigbe
