Let's do like the Japanese do... Japan is one of the areas of the planet most subject to earthquakes but, as demonstrated during the latest earthquakes that occurred a few months ago, it is not among the areas most at risk for the population. This result was achieved thanks to the very high development of anti-seismic construction techniques and, lo and behold, their application! There is an equally advanced European country which, however, from an application point of view, considering the costs of prevention, prefers to put its head in the sand like ostriches and rely on the benevolence of fate... in short, it prefers to pay the much higher bill of reconstruction . The demonstration video shows the functioning of some seismic isolation devices, with different characteristics, and highlights the great difference in behavior between the isolated building and the non-insulated one, on the right, which in fact oscillates much more violently. NB: this is just a demonstration because using insulators that are very different from each other is certainly not an optimal design choice.
