This year’s successful IOE-BDA-DHL Conference on #BizHumanRights was timely, focusing on how #companies are getting ready for future implementation of regulations through a combination of high-level #discussions and practical-oriented #workshops. Key takeaways included: 1️⃣ A shared steadfast #business #commitment but also shared #concerns, #challenges and #questions around the move from soft to hard law in the #RBC and #BizHumanRights field. 2️⃣ Hard law carries #positive (raising the bar) and #negative elements (unintended negative consequences) whose impact need to be properly assessed, particularly for #suppliers, #SMEs and #developing countries 3️⃣The need for much more #considerations of #business realities and limitations when crafting and implementing regulations. Without the “business” in #Bizhumanrights, effective implementation and positive impact will be difficult. 4️⃣ Having #policycoherence and #legalcertainty is a must for any company. Among the different piece of regulations and with transposition ahead, alignment in reporting must be promoted. Bureaucratic burdens and reporting must be minimised to avoid duplication of reporting as to avoid a #compliance-driven approach. 5️⃣ Avoiding a #one-size-fits-all solution and paying equal attention to all Pillars of the UNGPs. Regulations are one of the many tools that governments have at their disposal as part of the #smart-mix. There is a need to focus equally on all Pillars of the #UNGPs particularly the key role played by State and its duty to protect and provider of an #enablingenvironment for the protection and respect of human rights. 6️⃣ #Partnerships are the key to advance together the agenda and have positive local impact. Being aware of negative unintended #consequences triggered as to work collectively to minimise those. 7️⃣ Workshops highlighted important best practices but also failures regarding #tech #OGM or #mHREDD showing that behind every business there are committed human being practitioners engaged to advance the agenda. 🔜 We will send out a save-the-date for the 2025 Conference.
