Today as I stopped by Red Cross to make a donation for those in Western North Carolina impacted by the hurricane something came to mind. Having worked with and for nonprofits for over 8 years, I've learned that one of the best ways to help those impacted by disasters like hurricanes is to streamline donations. Instead of sending mixed supplies, consider buying *all* of one thing. It helps organizations and volunteers move faster and get essentials to those in need in a more timely manner. Let’s make an impact together! And remember, wanting to help at ALL makes you a kind human. Many of you know that I have the honor of serving on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (#HabitatLA). Recognizing that #HabitatLA is uniquely positioned to support the short and long-term ReBUILDing efforts (as was done during the Creek fire a few years ago (https://lnkd.in/g_ecUDBj), #HabitatLA announced a couple of days ago that we are launching ReBUILD LA®, a long-term emergency response campaign aimed at helping those affected by these devastating fires. Donations to the ReBUILD LA® campaign will: --Help those who have lost everything rebuild or relocate, ensuring they have a safe place to call home. --Provide essential goods through gift cards to purchase food and other necessary items. --Support households whose homes are uninhabitable with rental or mortgage assistance and other intermediate housing needs. --Replace home furnishings with vouchers for Habitat’s ReStores. --Offer assistance to vulnerable survivors who have been left without options to afford housing.
