When we think about value-based care, we have to think about whole-person care, including tackling factors like isolation and loneliness. Research has shown that loneliness is as bad for people's health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. How can we help our seniors live happy, healthier lives? The answer is complex. Leveraging resources we already have, like our volunteer base, is a great way to start. 👏

Puyenpa would like to introduce Phil Stevens, Outside Plant (OSP) Program Lead, and the focus of Puyenpa’s inaugural Employee Spotlight! Phil joined Puyenpa six months ago and is currently leading the Duckwater Broadband Project, which aims to provide essential services to the Duckwater Shoshone Tribe and other remote communities. This ambitious project involves designing a fiber optic cable network extending from Eureka, NV, to Duckwater, NV, and across the reservation. It includes crucial environmental assessments and collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management, the local power company, and three counties to determine optimal cable routes. We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Phil for a Q&A to learn more about his professional journey and personal insights. What is the focus of your role at Puyenpa? My role at Puyenpa involves designing, permitting, inspecting, and project managing the Duckwater Shoshone Tribal Reservation SP Backhaul fiber and tribal GPON projects. What’s your most-used productivity hack? Utilizing scaled aerial imagery, such as Google Earth, within AutoCAD to create highly detailed and accurately scaled models. This technology has significantly enhanced productivity and precision. What is your top career accomplishment? The successful construction and activation of services to the tribe will be my top career achievement. Throughout my 25-year career in OSP Engineering, I have designed numerous large fiber backbones and distribution networks, but I have never been so deeply involved in such a massive and meaningful project. Who inspires you? My mother. Diagnosed with Lupus at 13, she faced severe illness throughout her life yet had a very successful career as a real estate broker. Despite enduring numerous serious health issues, including kidney failure, dialysis, transplant, lymphoma, and recurring cancer, she remained highly motivated and assertive. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and finally succumbed to her illness in October 2023. What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends? Mountain biking. When I’m not riding downhill, I’m planning my next adventure. Gill's presentation focused on the mechanics of storytelling and how SEOs might benefit from using them to turn data into stories and communications that help stakeholders understand and engage. "It's always a great event," says Gill, "with speakers from all over the sector and, indeed the world. "At the last Search Norwich, there was a panel which worked really well - audiences love interaction and different voices. So, while I didn't have different voices, I did try and inject an interactive element by having a mini workshop with the audience. Not only to keep the audience engaged, but to bring the information to life. So we used the story framework in the presentation to create an 'SEO story' live - with input from the audience. Two things regarding tech and innovation in Northwest Ohio... #1... there are a LOT of people who have been let down by the systems and orgs put in place to support tech and innovation. #2... there are tons of great ideas out there just waiting to help define Toledo/NWO as a leader in the space. This is why I rail on every government/org post about photo ops and seeing the data from their initiatives. I'd name names, but we all know these government leaders and orgs are failing us and our future in Northwest Ohio. It's past time to cut the red tape, and align under a single vision of defining NWO as a place where cool people do cool things. There are two steps to make this happen: Establish a Director of Innovation and a Director of Communication. Two people whose sole purpose is to do cool things in NWO and tell the story. It's really this simple. Why isn't it happening Jon Husted?
