Change seems to be the key trend in relation to ESG investing at present ! The latest quarterly statistics from EFAMA show ongoing and increasing outflows from Article 9 funds- although Article 8 funds seem to have regained their popularity with significant inflows so far this year. We have recently seen new guidance from ESMA on the existing SFDR regime as well as proposals for more wholesale changes from the ESAs. At the AIMA - The Alternative Investment Management Association ESG conference last week delegates were updated on a broad range of developments in the area, including the FCAs approach. Jurisdictions representing over half the global economy by GDP have announced steps to use the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)’s Standards, or to fully align their sustainability disclosure standards with those of the ISSB: https://lnkd.in/eXyXFSZX We're looking forward to hearing global standard-setters speak at the 2024 ICGN Annual Conference, London, about their impressive work to instil investor confidence around the reliability and integrity of corporate sustainability disclosures. In Plenary 6 'Standards for sustainability reporting and assurance', speakers from ISSB, IAASB and IESBA will reflect on investors' need for high quality and comparable corporate sustainability disclosures to make informed investment and stewardship decisions. The ISSB published its inaugural sustainability reporting standards in June 2023, and, in 2024, the IAASB proposed a global baseline for sustainability assurance engagements, and the IESBA an ethics framework for sustainability reporting and assurance, including independence standards. ESG on the Rise: A Global Outlook for #ESG #Regulations Around the #World! Regulations around ESG (#Environmental, #Social, and #Governance) factors are rapidly evolving worldwide. The #EU leads with the strictest standards, mandating comprehensive ESG reporting (#CSRD) for many companies. The #US has adopted #climate-related disclosure rules for certain public companies (#SEC rules). Many Asian countries lack a single, overarching framework, but individual regulations and stock exchange requirements are pushing for better #ESGpractices. #Canada uses a combination of existing environmental and #socialresponsibility #laws with new initiatives like mandatory supply chain disclosures. Africa is a developing landscape, with #Egypt requiring #ESGreporting for listed companies and large banks, while #SouthAfrica is a frontrunner with JSE listing requirements and the #KingCode on Corporate Governance promoting ESG considerations. Similarly, Latin America is seeing a rise in ESG focus through investor pressure, government regulations, and #sustainablefinance initiatives. The Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) has launched its consultation on the first Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards (CSDS). The CSDS will align with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), with modifications to meet the needs of the Canadian market. Canadian regulators will be looking to the CSSB when deciding what standards public companies may need to report against. The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) - Autorités canadiennes en valeurs mobilières (ACVM) has welcomed the launch of the CSSB consultation. Building on our CEO Sarah Keyes, FCPA, FCA’s leadership as a member of the Implementation Committee, ESG Global’s Principal Alison Joutsi will be facilitating a roundtable with preparers to obtain their feedback on the proposed sustainability reporting standards in Canada. This roundtable will incorporate perspectives from a range of sectors, with the intention of formalizing a submission to the CSSB on proposed amendments to the Canadian-specific standards.
