10.1097/MS9.0000000000001376 https://lnkd.in/ghUkKk37 Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) represent enduring neurodevelopmental conditions characterized by impairments in social interaction, communication, behavior patterns, and activities. These multifaceted deficits significantly impact the quality of life for individuals with ASD and their families, necessitating lifelong support to ameliorate and manage core symptoms and concurrent disorders. This study underscores the multifaceted challenges confronting ASD children across various domains, spanning from diagnosis and support to resource availability and success stories, while also emphasizing the paramount importance of raising awareness about this critical issue with the goal of enhancing understanding and management for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.

We've reported significant improvements in anxiety and depression at 8 Weeks from our Phase II/III clinical trial, NTIASD2, evaluating NTI164 in 54 children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Over 8 weeks, the trial focused on assessing changes in the Anxiety, Depression, and Mood Scale (ADAMS). NTI164 demonstrated a statistically significant improvement (-19.01 score difference, p<0.001) compared to placebo in reducing symptoms related to depressed mood, social avoidance, general anxiety, and obsessive/compulsive behaviours. Notably, 62% of NTI164-treated patients were using anxiety/depression medications at the study's start, highlighting potential complementary benefits with NTI164. According to a study by Anita A. Panjwani, Vera Joffe, et. al, 32% of individuals with #SelectiveMutism have symptoms that can co-occur with #Autism. Because #ASD is one of the most common co-morbid conditions with SM, the SMart Center understands how these diagnoses can overlap and how to best approach treatment for these individuals. In the last version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, the different subtypes of autism were folded into one label: autism spectrum disorder. A similar revision is being made around the International Classification of Diseases, the system the {{facebook_mention(154163327962392|World Health Organization (WHO))}} uses across the world to describe autism and provide appropriate reimbursements for services and supports. In this version, the #ICD-11, a combination of 300 different presentations of autism is described. This has led to confusion because these presentations are not specific to autism, and therefore it is difficult to provide an accurate diagnosis using the ICD-11. This week we talk to German psychiatrist Inge Kamp-Becker, MD, who outlines what the changes are, how misdiagnosis can be made, and what those consequences might be. https://hubs.li/Q02kH4cg0

🥗 Can diet and environmental changes play a role in improving autism symptoms? 🛏 📈 Autism has been increasing at an outstanding rate across the globe, which has led many to look for new ways to address it. 🔬 In a new study, researchers studied twins who were diagnosed with Level 3 severity ASD, who required substantial support due to limited communication, repetitive behaviors, difficulty with transitions, and significant gastrointestinal issues. A parent-driven, personalized, multidisciplinary therapeutic intervention focused on modifying environmental and lifestyle factors was undertaken. 👍 Within several months, notable improvements were observed, with Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) scores dropping from 76 to 32 for one twin and from 43 to 4 for the other. This case offers encouraging evidence of how a personalized, multidisciplinary approach targeting modifiable environmental and lifestyle factors such as diet can have profound effects. 🥕 Here at Karott’, we are excited to see new research like this in the fields of #diet and #health!
